Default Health evaluation

I had recently got a letter from Blue Cross Anthem that they had contracted with CenseoHealth for an in home health evaluation. When CenseoHealth called to talk to me they told me it was totally up to me if I participated. A doctor would come to my house, ask a lot of questions, do simple physical like B/P, pulse, listen to my heart and lungs and check reflexes. My husband didn't like the idea but I, being naive thought that another eye in the picture couldn't hurt. After the visit this doctor would write up an official eval and send it to my doctor. I tlked to my docotrs office about whether they had heard about anyone else having this. My main concern wass that according to what the doctor wrote up Anthem cold refuse to pay for anything. So today was the appointment. He was early. I was told by the CenseoHealth rep that he would have a badge. He did not. So I made him wait outside until I called this place to find out if he as legit. I finally got a person to talk to and she gave me hiis name. i didn't want to give her the name and she agree with me. So i let the poor guy in the door and it started. He was very nice, a recent med school graduate, my cat approved of him. He reviewed my medicine and got a list of surgeries and medical conditions and immediate family histoy. Then he did the system reviews. Then we worked out a goal sheet. That I worry about. If I don't suceed in that goal sheet can they not insure conditions related to those goals. I got copies of everything and he left and my husband came up from downstairs. he was staying down there to make sure I was safe.

Has anyone heard of this company or have similar contracts with thiers? I looked the company up on the internet and they seem OK but I know that you can put anything on the internet. They seem like a risk management company. The letter from Anthem was signed by their chornic illness specialists.

Doydie & Barb,

I get the nurses calling from BC/BS saying they want to help me maximize my benefits. They work w chronic conditions. Mom gets similar nurse calls from her insurance company (another version of Blue Cross). We say we are not interested and hang up.

I don't buy it. They are paid by the insurance company.

Doydie, I'd love to be wrong. Let us know what happens.

RED FLAG ALERT. What good could come from your Health Insurance Co hiring a risk management team to evaluate your health? Except for them, by eliminating Chronically ill patients, as insureds.

On the other hand, it could be harmless education?

Sally that same question entered my mind many times. Yet the other did to. What harm is there to having another set of eyes. Plus as a former RN I enjoy talking to other health care members whether it's about my health or some one elses. At times I crave having stimulating conversations about health care, learning about advances in cardiac medical care. I always enjoyed taking Mom to have her pacemaker interrogated. They knew me and would let me sit there and look at the EKGs. At the pace make interogation, the computer looks at all the activity since the last time it was interrogated. For Mom that was every 6 moths. The person ding it would talk to me!!!! I felt like a cardiac nurse again. There is so so much I can't remember. But this young thing today graduated in June so I'm not sure how much he knew either!!!!

since its not in the normal run of how we normally do things, it rings all kinds of bells of warning, but maybe this is how they are doing things now. Many places are stressing preventative care versus rescue or emergency care. if you take your vitamin you will be healthier. if you eat good food, you will be healthier. if you exercise, you will feel better...but...

its scary to let someone into your home, and open your medicine cabinets to say "here it is!" is he just making sure you are not over medicated? or that all your stuff works with your other stuff? or he is being big brother and keeping a file on you? I dont believe they can drop you if you dont meet certain goals as you are already a patient and already they know you have a long haul illness.

Love that you are sharing this! I have BcBS and they have never contacted me.

Eliminating chronically ill patients as insureds.......that was the first thought that came to my mind. Since when have insurance companies done anything that wouldn't benefit them financially? And I bet the "physician" who did the assessment gets a little piece of the $$ action, too. Just seems illegal to me that they can present this as something that will help you when it seems to be just the opposite.

Well, I'm still on my former employers group insurance. There are 17,000 active employees, and I don't know how many retirees. I doubt they can drop us. If I had a private pay plan, that could be a valid concern.

But I am the sick one at my house, cancer and diabetes are the 2 main current expensive issues right now. I'm sure they'd love to be rid of me. 14 more months. Hello Medicare.
