anyone here ever have a relative come over to their house and take it upon themselves to do things like close the a/c vents, or do something even more verboten (forbidden) like turn the air conditioner up twelve degrees?!!?!!!!!
my sibling was just here, and apparently they dont like that I keep the a/c set to 69 or 72, depending on the weather outside, and they turned my a/c up from 69 to 81 degrees. One, not their house. Dont touch my a/c settings! two, they trashed my kitchen. (left dirty dishes with food on it in the wrong side of the sink.) three, they made the extremely bad decision to go thru my dad's desk to "organize" it. I nearly lost a hand the other day when I borrowed a pen. When I tried to warn the b-in-law not to touch the desk, I got yelled at. then my sister opened my dad's drug cabinet, and started to "organize" it, and wanted to know what was old and was going to start throwing out the empty bottles. I got yelled at by her when I told her not to touch his drugs (none of them are narcotic, they're all for cardiac related things, so no one was looking for a stash) My dad puts his pill bottles in specific order, so he knows what to take and when. I got a battery out of the cabinet once and knocked over a bottle and got told how important it was to him that you dont move the bottles around. My mom has been in the hospital for a month (doing a little better now, altho her hemoglobin is 7.7 today for some reason, so she's getting blood. might have something to do with the meds she's getting for the c-diff infection she acquired from the hospital. that stuff messes with the kidneys and blood marrow) We've been cleaning up the house a bit because mom is a bit of a hoarder, (no where near as bad as people on tv. we're just cleaning out books and old magazines) My sister decided she wanted to "help" and come get the books, and she was going to take our coats (ummm...no, dont touch our coats...why would they want our coats?) So they decided to do this on a day that my dad is not here, and I was home alone, still sick with my own health problems and fighting off an allergy induced migraine. My dad had told me that he'd talked to them and asked them not to come over because he wasnt here and I was sick. They came anyways, after saying they wouldnt, and they tricked my aunt into coming over and helping. I just called my dad to see how my mom was (she's sitting up, talking and she's hungry, but they wont let her have real food yet...they turned off her feeding tube for awhile...wish they'd get her started on real food soon) Asked my dad, just to make sure, if he turned the a/c up before he left this morning. He didnt. Now I know for sure someone messed with my air conditioning. My dad pretty much lets me have total control over the thermostat. I only turn it up if I'm cold, which I havent been. I dont know why my sister and her family think they can just change my a/c settings. It's not their house. If I go over to their house, I'm not going to touch their a/c even if I'm hot. (I'd just leave and go home to my own house) I was taught that you dont do things like that. I dont know where my sister was the day(s) that my parents were teaching manners and what not to do when visiting someone. I'm putting cling-film over the thermostat (the stuff that's like Glad Wrap, but has a sticky thing on one side, that sticks to stuff really well, works better than Glad Wrap) If it gets moved, I'll know someone touched it. I'm really serious about not getting hot, and not wanting people messing with my thermostat. (they already close my a/c vents sometimes when they're here) Was my sister being really rude touching my thermostat like that? Or is this something that's acceptable to do when you're visiting someone? edit: I went and looked at how many of my mom's books they cleaned out. I think they went a little overboard at how many of my mom's books they packed up. There were FOUR left in the bookcase. My dad's book collection is still intact. (mom's books are a huge collection of Southern Living cookbooks that go back into the early 80s) Granted, my mom doesnt cook, and hasnt cooked since...the early 80s, but they're her books, and she is starting to get better. She's going to be really ticked off if all of them are gone. They didnt take the books with them (because I was getting really really uncomfortable with how much stuff they were going thru and packing up...some of it was mine!) so I'm going back thru and saving a few more of my mom's books. I think everyone is getting a little over-enthusiastic on cleaning out my house, and these are the people that dont actually live in my house. When they started going thru my dad's desk and his medicines, that's when I got really uncomfortable with how much they were going thru. Then, seeing them starting to go thru my books drove me a little nuts. I've been off my steroids for over a week now, but I think they're still affecting me because I was starting to get annoyed at how much they were getting ready to cart away.
