Default new grand baby

Well, after being a week late, my DIL developed preeclampsia so the docs induced labor.
After 36 hours of very little going on and no progress after 3 hours of pushing our grandson was delivered by c section last Friday. Bryson Gerard weighed 7-7 and 21".

Twelve hours after being born, the little guy developed seizures. they ran him through a CT scan and found he'd had a stroke. They rushed him to Children's Hospital, and did an MRI. It showed a major area in the visual cortex and a small area on the right side of the cortex had been damaged. He continued to seize, so they put him on phenylbarbitol and put an EEG cap on him to monitor him.
My poor son & DIL-she was hysterical alone at the hospital while my son went with the baby. Luckily DIL's mom flew in Saturday...DIL was released a day early so she could go be with the baby.
By Monday the seizures had stopped, so they took the EEG cap off. He is nursing well now, so they took the NG tube out. Looks like, if he continues to eat and gain weight, he may be released today.
They were told that a newborn's brain is very plastic which means there might be rerouting of damaged nerves. They don't know why he suffered a stroke, which they said might be a good thing, because if there was a reason there might be more to deal with.
We face timed with them the other evening-the baby is adorable, moves both his hands & fingers, and can hear. He was asleep until he got hungry, then let the world know with a loud wail that he was ready for food-a welcome sound for sure.
We continue to wait and see what, if any, residual damage might linger...and pray...

Oh, Debbie! I'm so sorry about all the complications but thankful things have returned to somewhat normal. I know your son and DIL are walking on eggshells right now.......analyzing every move and sound he makes. I'd be doing the same.

Bryson is in my prayers this morning as are his parents and grandparents. Thank goodness all this happened in the hospital where he could get immediate attention.

Please keep us updated on his progress. Congratulations on yet another grandchild!

Oh my goodness!! I just can't imagine how worried they must have been and still are! Your poor DIL recovering from surgery and knowing her baby was ill! I hope he recovers fully and that this will just be a memory someday! As fast as babies grow he might grow right out of the effects. I'll pray for all of you!

Debbie, I was wondering what was going on. How stressful! I hope Bryson suffers no permanent damage from the seizures and stroke. Adiding my prayers for him and your family.

Great news...Bryson was released to go home yesterday afternoon...he only lost a couple of ounces through all of that, and is nursing and getting much nutrition, so they thought he'd be fine at home.
Thanks for prayers & hugs...you know I firmly believe the power in prayer; and if it is The Creator's will, with love and prayer, healing will come.
I'll keep you up to date as I hear.
Again, thanks all...you da best
