After a few months of things going downhill, we have finally had to make the decision. Our St Bernard/German Shepard can't bear weight on one of her back legs at all, so today at 4 my husband has to take her in to have her put down.
My 8 year old daughter is taking this the hardest. right now she is on the floor with the dog laying under a blanket. Molly has been sleeping most of every day and is not eating almost at all. We've told the people in the area who are close to her so they can say goodbye. This is a very hard day. |

I'm so, so sorry. I know it's probably one of the hardest decisions to have to make but you're putting the pet's welfare before your own desires. I hope your daughter will understand. Prayers for you and your family and also for your pet.

Thank you everyone. It has been a rough day here.
The vet said it was time. He said the lumps all over her looked like the were the bad kind but didn't elaborate. He said her hips were really bad and he didn't know how she was still around. He said she was definitely hurting. To help our daughter we took a big rock we had collected and put "Molly" on it with some other decorations. It seemed to help her, that and, Grandma bought her a stuffed animal that she named Molly. I have been bawling off and on all day, I also saw my husband cry more today than I think I have since his Grandpa passed. It was so hard to do. But I do know she deserved to not be in so much pain anymore. |

It's one of those decisions we all dread as pet lovers...when my 15 yr old golden retriever had a tumor, I would pray before going downstairs in the morning that he would have taken the decision away from me and I would find him passed-but he wouldn't go. One of my friends told me, "That's because he was so loved, he doesn't want to leave you."
We are on our 4th dog, and despite going through that very painful experience that you all are going through, the love and devotion-and fun-that we got from our dogs was worth the pain of saying goodbye. Know that it was the right thing for your Molly; your daughter is learning the preciousness of life and loving by learning how to say goodbye. I hope, in time, you can use it to point this out to her when she is in less emotional pain. I can picture my pups up running and having a great time with no pain, waiting for me...my prayers for you and your family for gradual easing of your mourning, to be replaced with all of the happy memories you had with your Molly

Molly has probably already found my handsome Rottweilers Sparky and Lightning (father and son), and they are romping and playing, rolling in the grass together. Sparky saved me from making that decision, but Lightning's hips went out just as Molly's. Both my boyfriend and I held him at the vet's.
I'm so sorry for your family's loss.
