Default I'm at work...

I couldn't convince them to bring the space station down for the furlough so there's a few of us still working...

Glad that you are still working.

What a shame that it has come to this, especially since the democratic nations of the world look to the USA as an example of how democracy can be synonymous with "United".

I hope that the ongoing resistance to cooperation within the government doesn't cause a cascade of disagreement among the public and that the shut down is short lived.

With love, Erika

That's great Tom I hope the Politico come to their senses soon.
Perhaps if their salaries were stopped, but, alas, they are not.

Tom

I am glad to hear you are working (even if without pay) - if only some elected officals felt doing their job was also necessary. Especailly disheartened about those who may be furoulghed with iffy hope of getting compensated for "forced unpaid time off"

So I guess you're considered "essential"?

Many sites in and around Boston are run by the National Park System are closed according to the news. People come here to see these things- like the US Constitution. School kids have trips scheduled too.

Same thing happening in DC and other National Parks which are not necessarily "parks."

I was happy to see the WWII Veteran's group knock down the barricades and go to the memorial anyway. The park police were on duty as essential employees, but decided to block access to the various memorials as part of the whole "shutdown theatre" production.

I was at work last night and when midnight hit, I went outside and looked up to make sure the station wasn't plummeting to the ground...

Of course it wasn't, but I went to 'humanspaceflight' (NASA) website to see what time the station was due to fly over my piece of the world and what did I get?

"Due to the lapse in federal government funding, this website is not available. We sincerely regret this inconvenience"

Yep...lets take down an automated website on servers that are already paid for as more "shutdown theatre" to make sure that people really hurt when government gets shut down. They wouldn't want us to start thinking that life could go on without them...
