Default TV Channels

When we were growing up, we had 2 TV channels. We were so excited when my dad moved the antenna farther up the hill and we could pull in a third!

Once in a while we'll be clicking through the program guide on the dish, and Pa will say, "We got ten thousand channels, and there still ain't nothin' fit to watch!"

If you were only able to have three channels, which three would you have? I'm having a little trouble narrowing it down to three!

That's easy... ABC, NBC, CBS. All of the good shows would be
on those stations, just like it usta be!!!

Could it be a different 3 each day????? I don't know how I would do without HGTV. I am liking CBS dramas the most. I haven't found a sit com I can stomach for a full 1/2 hour. It is all sex, sex and more sex. And I find a lot of the evening 'soap operas' are like that. Of course NBC has my Jeapordy and Wheel of fortune. But ABC has my Dancing with the stars and Fox has American Idol. So i don't know. I guess I would have to be good friends with different 3 stations than mine. But HGTV would have to stay.

I'm completely out of the loop as I gave up TV many years ago. I have watched bits and pieces at others' places over the years though.

When I was growing up (1960s) we had two and then 12 channels; but eeven with that small expansion [retty much the same stuff was on the twelve that was on the two.

Question: Do you sit through all the ads that repeat over and over or is there a way to filter them out and just get the programs?

With love, Erika

I'd have to agree with Sally. The three major networks would be plenty.

I downgraded my cable to just the basic. No expanded basic. Just basic. So I gave up my HGTV, TLC, Gameshow Network, and most of the channels I used to watch endlessly. Now, I read more. It took a week or two to get used to the "new normal" but I do just fine with just the basic lineup. I really don't miss it.

I remember in the 60's when we just had a few channels. And we didn't even have the Internet back then! What on earth did we do with our time??!! Probably better things than we do now.

We just have an antenna and the box you need if you do not have cable (we don't) Some network shows we like, Person of Interest and Elementary have moved to a 10 PM slot this year. We can not make a 10 PM show.

We do love HGTV when we travel- hotels and Mom's house. It's a big treat. We also like the woman that buys a house from a city for $1 and restores it.

If we could have one more channel at home it would be CNN. If we had HGTV here, we wouldn't get anything done!

As long as I can get PBS and the BBC shows I'm good. I can't wait for Downton Abbey to start again this January. I've been watching old episodes when they play them on PBS. I get Nova, too, on my basic cable plan. It's interesting.

We had one TV when I was a kid, and I had two older brothers. My two older sisters were never home since they were teens.

Once I had a stand off at around five years old with my older brother Bobby. He and Ricky were watching a western with bows and arrows but my cartoons were on the other channel. I stood in front of the TV because they wouldn't let me have my way.

So Bobby took my new Chatty Cathy doll and busted the head off! And mounted it on his bedroom wall! I was crushed! But I never did that to him again! I was such a pesky little sister!

We had one station when I was growing up. It was called the station our parents would allow us to watch! I remember one time I got home and my parents weren't there and we all tried to watch Dark Shadows. We found out that parents just don't have eyes in the back of their head. They even have eyes in the living room when they aren't there.
