It's not the first time she's hit something in the neighborhood with her car. She took out one of the neighborhood mailboxes down the street a few years ago when she was backing up after trying to turn around in a neighbor's driveway. (that was kind of funny. Half the neighbors didn't notice their mailbox was gone until they were almost to it. Then they were all like "what the heck happened to the mailbox?")

My aunt lives next door to this woman (off to the left of her house). My aunt and the neighbor who lives off to the right of there both came over, and got the neighbor out of the car. The guy that lives to the right, wanted to back the car out of the garage. My aunt wouldn't let him. That's a support wall that she took out. Good chance if you move the car, it'll do more damage to the wall, or cause the wall to collapse. She took out the supports in the corner.

The car is totaled. My aunt said the hood is crumpled. The windshield is in pieces. The airbag went off.

The neighbor had shelves on all three walls of her garage. Not anymore. They're all on the floor now. Some of the stuff is inside her car. Probably what broke the windshield.

Neighbor is in her 80s. I think she needs to stop driving. I've thought that for awhile. It was probably the wrong style of house for her to buy too. Her garage doesn't open straight out to the street. To get into her garage, you have to pull up into the driveway, and then make a right turn to get into the garage.

She hit something last summer, but I can't remember what it was. I think she hit the side of her garage backing out, or pulling in sometime last summer, or it could have been the year before. Ripped her passenger door up.

Erin you have a smart aunt! I hate to think what her insurance must be with all those previous problems. I agree with the others. No driving for her anymore.

My aunt is amazing. She's the widow of my dad's little brother. (my uncle died in 1995) She's the smartest person I know.

When we used to live at our old house, we were about a block and a half from her and my uncle's house. They lived right on a busy street. There were car accidents on that corner several times a week. Half the time my aunt was the one who was crawling into the cars and giving first aid to the people in the cars. She pulled someone out of a burning car once.

My aunt was wondering what the premiums for the neighbors homeowners insurance are going to do. I wonder just how much damage she's done to the structural integrity of the house. Outer walls are almost always support walls. I hope that the house isn't going to fall down on her. At least it's on the side of the garage that's not right next to the main part of the house.

I'm just glad the neighbor didn't have the car in reverse. She would have ended up in my aunt's house then.

my contractor just showed up to work on my house. He saw the damage across the street. I asked if that's a support wall, and he said it is, but he thought the brick on the front of the house would probably help hold it up some. He said it's probably a good thing that her garage faced that direction. Said he's repaired houses where people have driven into their living rooms. Said it should be easier for her to clean up, since the back of her garage is actually the side of her house.

He even said that it'll probably be ok if it rains, since it's just the garage, and doesn't lead directly into the house.
