That's what kind of annoys me about knitting. I can't imagine something in my head, and then knit it. But I can imagine something in my head, and then crochet it. I've come up with a couple of halfway decent patterns doing that.

Did that with a scarf pattern once, and then expanded it to a shawl as a different project.

Scarf^

Shawl^

They're both the same pattern, I just widened one to make the shawl.

edit to add pictures of the blue shawl. I think the design shows up better in it.

Oh those are gorgeous. I really hope to get to that point one day in crocheting. It's something my mom can do, makes me jealous sometimes if she can picture it in her head, or you can show her a picture she can whip it up.

Of course she can do that with crochet, knitting and fabric, I could only beat her before by being able to draw, she can't even doodle stick figures

The scarf/shawl pattern is easy. It's just double crochet and chain stitches. It goes really fast too. Doesn't use up a lot of yarn either. I made the scarf to test the pattern, and then made the blue one, and the orange one.

I might be making another one of those shawls if I don't like the Kittens In A Row afghan pattern.

Erin think of what you could do for some fundraising for MS. People spend good money for afghans and shawls like yours at craft shows and auctions

actually, they don't. I've tried to sell stuff I make. No one wants to pay what it's worth. I call it the Walmart Effect. Why would they pay me $100+ for an afghan when they can go to Walmart and buy themselves a blanket for $20?

When I go to craft shows, it makes me sad to see people selling afghans for less than $20. If they're using Red Heart yarn (which is what a lot seem to use) that barely covers the cost of the yarn. I just bought $30 of Red Heart yarn, and I'm pretty sure that I didn't get enough for the afghan I'm going to attempt to make. I just got that yarn today. It doesn't seem to be enough. (good thing Red Heart yarn doesn't have dye lots)

I have people ask me to make stuff for them occasionally. When I tell them what it costs (materials plus labor) they usually say "nevermind". Or they'll go learn how to make it themselves. The only people I'll make gifts for are my parents, and my aunt that lives across the street. I did make my neighbor an afghan last year. She really liked it.

this is the afghan I made for my next door neighbor. It's another pattern that I've made repeatedly. I've probably made more than a hundred of these. And I think I only have one of them. All the others were given to family, or some of my friends.

I used to work at a telemarketing company where they let us crochet or read, or craft while we were working. I'd go to the yarn store every morning. My car became a rolling yarn storage system.

Thumbs up

It has been a long time since I was crocheting. You two make me want to get back into it. The both of you are experts in your work.

It keeps me sane. I really need to do more crocheting. Because things in my life are making me a bit crazy. Crocheting keeps me from stabbing people who annoy me. (because I'd end up getting blood on my yarn if I do that)

Well, even with a Jonas day, I mananged to finish my first square for a filet crochet design afghan.

It's suppose to be an eight sided star, but my DH likened it to a sad octopus on my first attempt. Missed some stitches somewhere and had to restart.

I feel it's more flower than octopus or star, well if nothing else it seems it might make a good ink blot test afghan.

So what imagine do you see?

More like an 8 legged starfish, to me.
