Erika, you've certainly had more than your fair share of issues. Yes, a sense of humor can be the one thing that keeps us all sane!

I have trouble finding the right words sometimes. I just draw a blank and whoever I'm talking to just sort of looks at me and waits. If it's a family member who knows my disability and knows I have a hard time sometimes they'll suggest words and that usually gets me going again. It's frustrating, though.

I'm glad you feel well enough to visit the forums here. I hope you continue to improve. So glad the furbabies are there to keep your spirits up.

Merry holidays a few days late all...

Kitty, those angels are big for twins!! So adorable!!

Erika...oh my dear...we have been praying for you, wondering what has been going on.

I am glad you are making attempts to regain as much functioning as you can. Would you be able to get a hold of a speech recognition typer so you don't have to struggle to spell?
Keep us up to date...we will continue to hold you in our thoughts and prayers..:group hug:

It's been a struggle dealing with the noise of the kids (both little and adult). We have been sleeping at DS34 & DIL's house--thankfully...gives us both some quiet time. DD got stomach flu yesterday her daughter has been having war seems to be reflux or acid issues...screams for a few hours until about 12 or 1 am...I'm too old for this

HI Debbie ,

Sorry that the kid noise is getting to you but glad that you have a place to go to get away from it. Hope that you get your house and its peace & quiet back soon.

I don't know anything about speech recognition typers and have developed problems with setting up and running technology stuff. Actually, getting regular stuff to work seems to baffle me lately. My speech isn't the best these days so maybe it would be too slow and unclear for a typer to work? Writing in a WORD document seems to be the best option at this point because I know how to do that. Thanks for the suggestion though.

With love, Erika

Hi Everyone!

Erika - It is so good to see you posting again. I am so sorry you have had so many health issues to deal with. You really had a rough year last year (2014) and I hope this year goes much better for you. Continue to heal and check in when you can.

I've been kind of lurking again. I spend 3 weeks over at DD's house helping out with the baby and her. They are both getting in to a better schedule and I came home the other day. He's 4 weeks old today and is growing so fast.

The weather here is just crazy!!!! It is so cold. Well, cold for me. We've been having hard freezes and it snowed and it has been in the 40s during the day. AND, I got home Monday and my heat is working properly. It is pumping heat out but the heat part shuts off and the fan continues to run blowing cold air until the heat kicks back on. It's running almost constantly. They were supposed to send someone out to look at it but no one showed up. Then it was New Year's Eve and New Year's day. I went in to the office today and talked to them about it. I have heat so I can't complain it's just the cold blowing out when the heat clicks off. And, one of my neighbors doesn't have heat at all. The complex manager said that the heating and cooling people in town are extremely busy and overwhelmed. Hopefully by Monday someone will be out to work on it.

I just finished reading A Lesson Before Dying. I was crying by the end of the book. I guess they made it into a movie in the late 1990s. I couldn't find it on Netflix or any other movie streaming channel, including Amazon. Googled it and found it on YouTube. I started watching it and am about 1/2 done. Who ever put it on YouTube did it in parts (ie. part 1 which is 20 minutes, part 2 which is another 20 minutes, etc.) and it's harder to watch because the flow of the storyline gets broken up. It seems to be following the book fairly well but some parts are definitely missing and some parts I'm glad were missing because they didn't seem to really be necessary in the book either.

I hope you all have a good night.

Brain is in hyper mode for some reason. Can't sleep yet and its 2:00 AM. Hanging out here and catching up is good . Just finished writing a long post on another thread and am pretty much done now. Going to try getting some sleep.

With love, Erika

Erika, my brain is not in hyper mode! I would say that Christmas is now over for our family but the house is still a mess. Usually before everyone leaves, the guys fold up all the chairs and put the family room back in order. Last Christmas (held in January each year) the little ones were 1 and 2 and new borns. Now they are 2 and 3 and more new borns. The 2 and 3 year olds were INTO everything!!!! I have a small area behind my couch with toys that I bought at yard sales and consignment shops when my first grand daughter was born. So those toys were really used ALL over the family room. 33 people, 6 of them were 3 and under and then my very active 8 year olds grand daughter and then the 13 year old. The when we got ready to eat we brought in 2 8 ft table, 2 6 foot tables, chairs and some one's smaller table, my Mom's antique Duncan Fife table with 2 leaves and a card table for food, deserts and plates, etc. To move you usually had to ask at least 2 people to stand up and move.

We are mutually decided this is the last year for the meal to be at my house. We want the gift giving to be there cause it's just wall to wall kids and wrapping paper and it's fun. But the meal is a no forever on now. So I am sad about that. But I have always had in mind 'what would Mom do'? Our Christmas traditions all stem from when we were kids, then grown up with families of our own. But we all went home to Mom and Dad and the same traditions. But after Dad died and then Mom started having some really hard physical problems she had to realize ehr own limitations and get a mobility scooter and move out of their old home into a retirement, independent home. My home is now beyond it's limitations and we have to sadly accept it just like Mom did.

We live in a bi-level, I think it's called a split level now. The foyer is enter the door, either go upstairs or downstairs. Butit's also a place where people gather to put their coats on, catch their little ones who see a door open and want to go outside and that little tiny area is very crowded. So they all left at the same time, then my own family wanted to go see a movie. So there remained me an my very tired body and two grand kids! Luckily it was 7 PM, their bedtime 9 PM and the movie Frozen to watch. it kept them quiet and allowed me to lay on the couch with my shoes off and the cat to finally move out of hiding and get back her own home. and it was quiet!

So I am exhausted but with smile on my face. I am sitting in my office with Pandora on at the Peaceful holiday music station and will be going to bed soon and not going to go to church in the morning.I would love to sleep until I wake up which might be 5 PM but I have grand kids to see off tomorrow and leftover pecan pie to eat for lunch.

Hi everyone! Winter has finally arrived to the Midwest...brrr!

Erika, I often find myself waking up around 2:30 am...I noticed that spasms increase due to baclofen wearing off, so I am trying to remember to take a small dose at that time.

Also, i find that getting up and writing in my journal or poetry book is a release. i feel that sometimes my soul needs that quiet time to write. Maybe it will help you as well...

Trish, sorry to hear you're having trouble with your heater. Prayers for you getting that problem fixed ASAP...

DH has been busy demolishing our bathroom getting ready for the remodel. Noisy, messy, but well worth it in the long run Poor guy has been hammering getting tile and wallboard off...ugh. I have trouble looking in the room, since i am a princess and don't like seeing anything not pretty

Have a good night, all...

Just found out this afternoon that one of the precious little ones here for Christmas yesterday is sick. It was the 3 week old. he doctor thinks it is pertussis. She is in the hospital. She had a cough here and her Mom got my stethescope out and listened to her chest. Their first born who is 3 now had open heart surgery when he was about 9 months old so she is really good at noticing things, catching it early and not being real nervous around equipment. But she is Mom and a Mom with a heart of gold. I feel so sorry for her. When she was about 4 months pregnant with little one last year my nephew decided he wanted to 'find' himself and left. So she lives in a second floor apartment with 3 kids, babies. My brother and SIL do a lot of the baby setting. Anytime they have a day off they have the kids just so Mom can get stuff done around the house. But my brother and SIL lives with her aging Mother who is early dementia. They can't leave her alone at all now. They moved into her house. Now this elderly woman has not only her daughter and SIL but many days at least 2 children in the house. I guess now that Alicia is staying at the hospital full time Grandparents and great Grandma have the other 2 full time plus their full time jobs.
