Apparently yes, you can!! At least I can!
I was in the floor (hands and knees) trying to coax Tigger out from underneath my bed. There is a table (like an end table) under the window that's beside the bed. I was trying to get up so I put one hand on the table and one on the bed.....just to give me some leverage. I guess I raised my head up too fast because I totally lost any balance I had and felt myself going towards the floor.....but it was like slow motion. I could see the table and the bed.....and my walker parked right in front of me. I bumped my head on the wheel of the walker and my arm on the table. Afterwards I just sat on the floor thinking "Only I could manage to fall when I''m already down on the floor"!! I'm fine.....just a little abrasion on my knee and a small bump on my head. My arm is sore but feels like I exercised too much.........haha yeah, right.

Well, something positive did come out of it. I scared the cat out from under the bed......but couldn't get up to catch him!! He ran into the front bedroom which was where I intended for him to go so it worked out. Whew......

While I can't recall falling while already on all fours, I have certainly ended up in that position after loosing my balance or having the legs give out. Funny thing is that the dog thinks I want to play or give him a brushing at times like that. So he either rolls over to have his belly brushed (we always start with his favorite area), or he joyfully retrieves his ball, plants himself in front of me, down on his elbows with his rump still up, ready to play .
Kitty, if you keep it up, you'll be in fine form to teach the grands to crawl . With love, Erika |

It's so difficult for me to get in a comfortable position on the floor. Then, once I do I have to get up to go to the bathroom! And as you probably already know there's no "hurrying up" with MS. It takes me for-ever to get up.....and once I do my legs are like jell-o! And usually the bathroom is a long forgotten plan! Oh well, I consider myself lucky to be able to still get up and down no matter how long it might take me.

Because I do a lot of yoga, it is probably easier for me to be on the floor than some...it still isn't comfortable at first though. I have a 4 inch thick foam mat on the floor along with some cushions to place under strategic areas to increase comfort and balance which helps too.
Don't ask me how to convince fur babies...or other babies , that the mat and cushions aren't a communal day bed. I gave up on declaring it off limits years ago . With love, Erika |

I've done this too. It's both funny and frustrating at the same time.
When I had my pelvic floor PT, the PT had me get on all fours and rock back and forth and side to side. She said that these motions help strengthen the pelvic floor and back. She said that babies do that to strengthen so they can crawl and walk. So, potentially you could teach your grands how to crawl and walk or your grands can teach you how to get up and walk. I've been doing those exercises for a few months now and can tell a difference if and when I am on the floor and trying to get up. |
