I was talking to my PT the other day and was talking about my shower transfer bench. I said we had to move it closer to the faucet as I was having trouble. I explained that I was able to get on the bench and rotate my upper body to turn the shower on and then use the hand held shower. He gave me a funny look. I said I shower with my back facing the shower head. He said he faces the shower and never thought there was any other way. I told him it's kind of like the toilet paper issue...over or under.
So, just for fun, which way do you face? |

I'm a spinner I guess. I start out facing the water, spin to one side, spin to the back, spin to the other side and face front once again repeated throughout the shower time. I'm trying to talk my DH into installing a lazy Suzan on the bottom of the shower stool. Or maybe I might end up finding a nice teak swivel stool to use.

A spinner. I can't do the spin thing anymore. I will most certainly fall. Before I got the hand held I had enough trouble standing up to rinse off and to rinse my jair. It's so much work and so tiring.

I'm like you, I have my back to the shower head. I don't like the water going directly on my face. I put my head in and let it go down my face.

It is something that we don't really think about. I never thought there was another way to shower until after I had my surgery. My mom mentioned something about facing the shower and putting my chair that way. I said I don't face the water when I shower because I don't like it getting in my face or rinsing off the soap as I'm still lathering. I don't mind turning around to rinse but, soaping up I don't face the water. She said she faces the shower when she showers. That's the first time I realized there was another way to shower.

We have a shower in our master bath that is the smallest teeny tiny thing, barely able to turn around in. So we bathe in the bath/shower combo. But I used to shower in the tiny one when the kids were at home.

Partly why I spin around so much is aquaphobia . After drowning, I guess not really or it still is considered that, needing rescusitation after filling the lungs with water.
In any event, water really freaks me out, showers are easiest to get clean over a bath, but the freakiest of water experiences for me. Can't hear anything under the spray, water bouncing in all directions so we need to spin. You should see me washing dishes though, if I don't have enough bubbles, or leave the rinse water running to long I actually come close to passing out. Yet I LOVE to swim, at least on the days I can conquer the phobia, otherwise it's standing like a ninny at the side of the pool staring down at the water till I'm dizzy and ill. Or screaming like a little kid because a wave touched my foot at the beach. Same beach where a day before I was swimming through the waves and even grabbing hold of an odd shark or two. (sand and nurse sharks nothing to worry about )
