Default Pets

I have always loved animals and have had quite a few pets in my lifetime.

I love sharing the silly antics and love hearing about other pets.

So, if you want. Share and I will share past and present.

I have three cats. Why three? I have no good reason. Best part is that these three are very zen. No big tiffs.

I will start with just one cat to start.

First cat is Mango, my big orange cat. I got him from a no-kill shelter at an empty the shelter event. I wanted a big cat, I mean Maine Coon size without all that long hair.

Could not find a kitten I wanted but just as we were about to give up, we saw an orange adult in the open area, sleeping on a cat tree. Only $5. We got him.

He was supposedly only four months old but he was full grown, at least we thought the ten pound cat was an adult rather than a baby.

We took him to the vet who was sure he was at least one year rather than a mere sixteen weeks. Then she looked at his teeth, all baby teeth.

She said, "Oh my. This is going to be a BIG cat."

He grew to be twenty pounds, all muscle. Where does he sleep? Anywhere he wants, he is the alpha male cat.

He is a man cat. Any male who comes to visit is attracted to Mango's size. Friendly cat who stretches up on his hind legs and reaches as his way of hugging.

YIKES!!!

I love animals too. But I have a baby blue iguana. About 6 or 8 months old. Just a guess though. Could be much older or younger. Unfortunately you don't get a birth certificate when you buy them. I've had iguanas many times and know a lot about them. They can do funny things. Like hide on you for weeks or months.

Cat #2 is a black/white named Luna.

We got her at the same empty the shelter event. I did not want her. DH kept taking her out of her cage and looking at me with childlike big eyes.

She has the softest fur of any cat, more stuffed animal soft than real. She is small for a cat. Or maybe because Mango is so large, she only appears to be small. Her tail is stunted and the joints are deformed and resemble a "Z" like Harry Potter.

She is queen of the master bed. She walks the edges and flops onto her belly hoping for a vigorous belly rub.

She fetches, mostly when I am seated on the toilet. She brings her favorite ball to my feet and sits, staring at me hoping for a toss. She races off to bring it back. She will do this about ten times before neglecting to bring it back.

Right now I have one cat although I would like more. DH says just one. I don't know why but all of our cats have all have chosen DH as their human. Our present cat, Melody, a medium to long hair Tortie, sleeps on my bed but other than that she is pretty well she is with DH. He does her belly rub, behind the ear rub, she talks to him, not me. All he has to do is give a certain meow and there she is. I wish she more playful, she doesn't like to fetch, chase strings or anything. She has her imaginary games that only she knows what she is doing. She will go racing through the house, up an down the stairs, down the halls then finally stop and get a belly rub and then off again. She runs fast enough that when she turns a corner she looses her sense of direction balance or something because with the hardwood floor she rarely gets to her destination without coming to a screeching halt against something. At bedtime, or what she considers bedtime she is extremely vocal for me to go get her bed ready which means me get in it. She also is a rescue cat.

We had Adora, a tuxedo, rescue cat before Melody. She was as a kitten very adorable. She loved to play with anything. I don't know what happened as she got older but she became pretty mean. She continues to be nice to us only but not to anyone else in the family. When we had our holidays here I would have to set her food and supplies in the office and lock the door. Melody has the run of the house all the time.

Tomorrow I will try to remember to tell you about Buddy, our shelty.

I feel bad about something. A few years ago a neighbor had a stray. She had asked me if I wanted it. It was so ugly I said no. Now that I think about it that could have been the best cat in the world.

The third of my trio is a seal point Siamese aptly named Gabby by DH because of her distinctive bellowing talkative meow.

She is not the Siamese cat pictured sleeping on my shoulder.

She lives to play. But she rarely engages in self amusement. She wants the interaction of having her humans wiggle the toy. She will run in front of me and promptly sit in front of any toy on the ground and then meow softly to catch my attention and hope I will play with her.

Introductions done!

They always say a man's best friend is his dog. And Buddy was that. We had never had a dog that we hadn't gotten from a shelter. I knew I didn't want one form a puppy mill. Some how D got it in his head he wanted a Sheltie. So I started watching the adds. There he was. I puppy left in a home where both the Mom and Dad lived. It was about 2 hours away but from talking on the phone he sounded like it would be worth it. I don't know what our two young girls would have done if he just didn't like us. Buddy was the runt of the litter and no one wanted him when they had first put the puppies up for sale. So they decided to put an add in the paper one more time and if no one bought him it would be God telling them to keep him. You see they also had two girls and they let them be in charge of having them in the house for socialization time and just letting them be used to be in the house and proper manners. They even had him almost potty trained. So it would be two upset girls either way. He was 3 months old, so a little older but still the typical fluffy puppy.

He was just the most wonderful dog and friend any man and kids could have. He hated to be scolded and would 'hide' which of course in dog language is put his paws over his eyes or head under a pillow. If he couldn't see you then of course we couldn't see him! He was always so silly when it came to bath time. He hated it. But our youngest, Michelle, had a way with him and he knew he could not say no to her. He would go with his tail between his legs but he knew he had to go. He ahd his regular antics of trying to wiggle himself underneath DH. But he also knew he loved the blow dryer, that is until he was done. And then he was DONE. Then I would take him outside and brush him, and brush, and brush and brush some more. I don't think you can ever finish brushing a long haired dog. It jsut keeps on going and you wonder how in the world a dog can have that much fur on the sidewalk yet still have a full coat. He had his 2 girlfriends. Our next door neighbor had a female sheltie the exact same age. We got them 2 weeks apart. But they always had a fence between them so they were never able to 'be 'together'. But they sure loved running the length of the fence. Sissy was the brave one. If there was another dog approaching, she would bark and bark and run around protecting her and Buddies domain. We would find Buddy up underneath our deck!

But he was able at times to wiggle under the fence and go wandering. You see about 4 blocks over the was a cute little black fluffy thing named Chocolate and she was allowed out of the house. So we knew whenever Buddy was out of the fence to go down to Chocolates house and we would find our wanderer there. But he would act like a man around around her. If we were driving, we had to get out of the drivers seat, leave the driver door open and then go get in the passenger seat and close the door. Then and only then would Buddy get in and put his paws on the steering wheel and give her his goodby, see you later bark.

Buddy remained our close friend for 12 years, Christina went off to college, Michelle went off to college and came back home because you can't stay in college and just stay in the dorms, you have to go across the street and go to classes!!!! So after she came home, we started noticing tumors on his belly. At first they were nothing but then they got real big, he couldn't eat or drink and bairly get around. Since we live in a bi-level, Charlie had to carry him down the stairs to try to do his business. It was decided to do the humane thing and put her down. Bless his heart. I fixed up a box, put a pillow and covered it up so it was a nice soft bed. Michelle was going to carry the box in. But as soon as we got to the vet, Buddy got right out of that box, proudly walked in, peed on his usual spot at the check in desk and walked with us to the room where he took his last breath. He will forever be our most favorite family pet. Love you Buddy

I love how everyone wants to tell about their pets. I love animals so much.....sometimes more than people! They don't judge......just love.

Most of my pet pics are in my profile album. I have three cats. Tigger, Gracie and Panda.

They are inside cats. I also take care of six (sometimes seven) outside ferals. They know me and come everyday to eat. I have a barn that I keep wheat straw in for them to have a warm and dry place.

I've named my outside kitties because four of them I have had since birth plus I think all creatures deserve a name. They are Callie, Taffy, Hershey, Kit Kat and Snickers (who disappeared in Sept never to come back. ). Mr. Mooney is a big Tom cat that I need to catch and have fixed. There is also Mr. Black who doesn't come around that often but when he does he expects to eat.

My inside cats like to sit in the window and watch the outside cats.

I will tell the stories of my inside babies later.........
