Default NASA Update

Anybody interested?

Next shuttle: STS-122 launch scheduled for 2/7/08. It'll carry the European Space Agency lab module to the space station. 11 days. There was a brief discussion of moving the launch up to the 6th this morning - I don't think it'll happen though.

Then the next: STS-123 launch now scheduled for 3/11/08. It'll carry the first part of the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) lab module to the station. Big sucker. LONG mission - 17 days minimum. If it launches 3/11, I'll be COD Mission Manager for the first 6 days (The guy who's turn it is will be in Hawaii...)

STS-124 launch scheduled for 4/24/08. I'm COD Mission Manager for this one.

STS-125 launch 8/7/08, but we're thinking of slipping it to 8/28/08. This mission is going to the Hubble telescope to make modifications so we can get a few more years of use out of it.

STS-126 launch scheduled for 10/16/08.

STS-119 scheduled for 12/4/08. I'm COD Mission Manager for this one.

The flight numbers were assigned years ago for specific missions and crews. 119 just got postponed.

Wanna see the station/shuttle zip across the sky? Find out when in your area at http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/

Can't wait! Thanks, Tom! I have my viewer and timeline all bookmarked and ready to go. Now I just have to remember to be there.

Oh, and Tom, while you're not using the shuttle, would you mind buzzing a few of us over to HI for some R&R?

Got any information about the asteroid that was supposed to possibly hit Mars this month?

Hey Tom, thanks! I got my ISS schedule for the weekend. I like how it tells you how many minutes. My dad will have to get his telescope set just right. His is programmable.

Good luck with all these missions going on. You are an inspiration to us all.

Good idea! What was I thinking. Heck, they're old enough to take care of themselves. DUH!

Sorry for the brief hijack. Back to you, Tom.

When are they going to allow civilians in space again? I've always wanted to go, and just think.....we wouldn't have much trouble with our balance. I think it's a smashing idea! Do you think NASA will go for it?

Thanks! We use to have the NASA chanel through our cable, but they dropped it for some reason. My kids loved watching it. I still have the July 4th (2006 or 7??)launch recorded on my DVR that they watch from time to time. My future little astronauts
