I just received my new library card in the mail and I am SO EXCITED!!!

I haven't been to the library in quite a while and I'm planning a trip soon so I can see what's new. I went to the website and they even have an option where you can pick out your books beforehand and they will pull them and have them ready for you when you go to pick them up! How cool is that??

There are a few Danielle Steel books I've been wanting to read but I just cannot bring myself to pay full price (or even discounted prices) for them knowing that I will only read them once.

I also want to get a few cook books so I can expand my recipe files - we're getting tired of eating the same things over and over again. Southern Living has some of the best cook books but I'm too cheap to buy them!

Anyone have any suggestions of other books I might like - I like to read most anything except Sci Fi and Fantasy.

I never read autobiographies but I read this one for my book club. It was so good I coudn't put it down! It was so good, and I just couldn't believe it was a real story. If you read it, you'll understand what I am saying.

James Patterson's women's murder club series. The first book is "1st to Die", then "2nd Chance", "3rd Degree", "4th of July", "5th Horseman", "6th Target" and the newest one is "7th Heaven". I have read the first 4 and loved them all. I just got the 5th one, but haven't started it yet. It's a great series that can keep you reading for awhile.

This is so kewl! Does the library have an on-line catalog for books? Since you like Danielle Steel, you could do an "author" search for more of her books. I know the library my DD and I go to has an on-line catalog in which to choose books.

Also, you also can search for new recipes on the WEB. There are tons out there! It seems more and more people are beginning to store recipes on their PCs.

I've read 64 out of 66 Danielle Steel books...I love her! Try Nora Roberts. She writes a lot of trilogy books. I've read all her stuff, too. (Not her writing as JD Robb)

There are quite a few authors already listed there along with links to several web sites. Most of them, I think, are suspense and mystery.

Patterson's Women's Murder Club series is good like someone said. (When they made the TV series though they should have made Lindsey Boxer a blonde like she is in the book!! I hate it when they screw things up like that! )

Congrats!!! I work as a library clerk in a very busy library, and it's always neat to give people their new library card, even though I do it half a dozen times a day.

Some people say, "I haven't been in a library in 20 years." Well, it's never too late!

Libraries have wonderful resources these days. Besides allowing you to reserve books online, most library Web sites (as well as the library staff themselves) will have all sorts of booklists. Go to your library's Web site or just Google "library booklists" and you'll get tons. Multnomah County Library has great lists!

Besides regular books, most larger libraries also have audiobooks, movies on VHS and/or DVD, music CDs, books and movies you can download for free on your computer, plus storytimes, computer classes, and all kinds of programs for all ages, and database subscriptions for doing research, etc. Not to mention staff who are trained and eager to help you with any information request you could possibly think of!

P.S. Be nice to your library clerks by...
--removing Post-its and toilet-paper bookmarks from your library books
--checking that the right disc is in the CD or DVD you're returning!!!!
--checking your pile of returns to make sure you're not accidentally dumping in the video store's item, or your own personal item not marked as a donation.
--not waiting til your fines get out of hand before coming in to deal with them, but never be afraid to come talk to us about any problems, and please don't be embarrassed because your books are late!

If you want to buy some cookbooks you can check out half.com. I sell and buy all kinds of books there. You can get a used book or sometimes new for really cheap prices.

I get my son's textbooks for college there too. It saves us a lot of money.

Just wanted to give you another option. The big plus is you get them through the mail, you don't have to drive.
