OMG Holly - you really DID have the day from hell
I hope you get oil delivered tomorrow!! And the only good thing about your darling boy is that he may have to deal with his own lovely child one day Mo

Oh shite Holly! Sorry I got in here so late/early. The diesel fuel is a life saver. We had oil heat for years and the tank didn't have a gauge! We measured it with a yard stick through the hole in the top! LOL Also, don't worry your Bart Simpson will grow up, tehe. My boys/men are now 20 and 17. A whole different set of problems though ! They do stop the mass destruction at around 13 or so, when all they think about is girls LOL. It will get better, I promise.

Why is it that when it rains...it pours. I just hate those kinds of days.
Kind of reminds me of walking into the house one day. It looked like a bloodbath. Blood spatters were all of the walls, the furniture, ceiling, everywhere! DH is calmly sitting on the couch watching TV. After counting the dogs, I ask him very nicely if he'd like to tell me why our house looks like a horror movie? Silly boy, he hadn't even noticed. Apparantly, Chipper had split his tail again and with every wag, he sent a spray of blood across the room. Oil will be here today, and the magic eraser is your new best friend! |

Good grief, Holly! You DID have the day from "way down under" didn't you?!
But, you managed to write about it in such a funny way! Made me laugh even though I truly felt your pain. If it ever happens again - which I hope to goodness it doesn't - I would leave a nice note for the DH letting him know at which hotel he could find us!! No heat is for the birds (specifically penguins)!

Thanks everyone!! I got a laugh or two and just generally felt great reading these replies this morning. It is wonderful to have somewhere to go to talk about this so that I am less cranky with the "loved ones".
We did talk last night about going down to buy some diesel. We have actually done that before, but we decided that it wasn't that bad and we didn't want to pay that much more $$ in case it didn't work. We had never done that after the furnace actually ran out completely, so we didn't know how much we would need to get it up to a level to actually work. So, we decided to tough it out. It was 54 degrees this morning in the house, so I'm hoping the oil company doesn't flake out on me because we got a bunch of snow today. I made it to work, so they better do the same!

Wow Holly,
I agree, your post was well written! I almost felt like a young Mom of two energetic boys again, one with an intense curiousity to take stuff apart (including furnaces and toilets!) A long story for another day. I hope today is better! You deserve a day in the spa after what you went through! And don't you love the "you must not have read it right" response from DH? Just last week one of our TV's was acting up because "I must have done something wrong." So, yesterday DH decides to take a look at the cables to the TV. Turns out that when our cat Rocky was still teething as a kitten, he'd chewed the DSL wire through. At least I had the last say on that one!

I had thought of that, too. That was one of the things we considered when we ditched the idea last night. Quote:
Spa day - you are my kind of woman. Sounds like an excellent idea. I think I will make an appt. I could use a 1 hour Swedish massage right about now!!! We have a cat that still loves to chew on wires, too. He has chewed through my phone cord more than once. UPDATE: We have oil (I'm ~ $600 poorer) and we have heat. I had to get my neighborhood HVAC guy to come over tonight because the stupid thing wouldn't fire up even after the oil . Turned out it wouldn't self prime, so he had to bleed out the line and all was good. My neighbor right across the street does this for a living and works on my furnace and a/c on the side. Today's service call cost a case of beer. Love my neighbor (that would have been big bucks for an after hours emergency call if I called any HVAC company)!! Am I not the luckiest girl today??? As soon as it kicked on, the cats each went to worship (they always look so reverent as they sit there and stare into the vent and wait) at the heater vent of their choosing awaiting the blessed heat. It started out at 51 degrees in here when I got home and it is already nearly 60!! Well, it is time to get off my butt and get back out into the snow - gotta get stuff for the 2nd Grade Valentine's Day party on Thursday. I have to get the craft stuff for the kids. Thank you everyone. Today is a much better day.
