So I have to do a load of laundry. I am getting picked up tonight to go out to my parents. I have no decent clean clothes left and I am out of detergent. Question...I don't have much energy to go the store and get more and fight the crowds and then do the laundry too. Can anyone let me know if there's something else I can wash my clothes with in the washer? Can I just put them in there with liquid fabric softener? I know this might be a dumb question...but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A cup of peroxide works wonders too.

I ended up using baby shampoo and it worked great. I needed something gentle because the clothes didn't need bleach.

I found that if you accidently put too much soap in the washer (dish liquid or whatever) and you are afraid it won't rinse out well, or are in danger of overflowing soap from the washer, ad some liquid fabric softner, it'll kill the suds.
I was at a laundramat for the first time ever when I first got married and I put in too much soap in a front loader machine....a kindly lady sitting there watching, picked up her bottle of liquid softner and added a capful and the suds went right down, I have never forgotten that! Baking soda works well for freshening clothes if they aren't too bad, maybe a squirt of your shampoo....any port in a storm!

I think vinegar works for this also. I use vinegar in my towels instead of fabric softener.
