Default OK - now a growth on my thyroid !!!!

My daughter has been having a fit for me to have my Thyroid checked because she says my symptoms are so similar to thyroid problesm that she has read about.

Just to please her, I went to an endocrineologist. I was thinking this is a serious waste of time - but it will make her feel better.

The doctor found a growth on my thyroid (she took measurements and told me how big it is - but I don't remember the size) I forget everything and I was drilled by the doctor about ever having cancer and have I ever had in cancer markers in my blood. The answers are no and no. So I spent half the day today having test and 10 viles of blood drawn I did not know that you can even have that much blood drawn and still be walking around - but I did (and it didn't hurt). Even the tech said that she would have passed out after the second vile (well I am not that wimpy but still.... 10 !!!!!)

I then had an ultrasound and some sort of uptake test thing where I took a radioctive pill and 6 hours later went back and had a test. I go back to the hospital in the morning for another test...

THat is my news - seems the doctors are always finding something new with me, but never finding anything to fix my current problems and never a definitive dx on the MS. Oh and I also had a Lupus test that came back as a "low positive" so I don't know what that means in terms of Lupus.

Isn't it just crazy - all these things seem to come in clusters ???

The endocrineologist is ruling out cancer first, then she gave me literature on Hashimoto's Disease which is what she is thinking I have may also have.
Oh well, time will tell.... or not... Also - I have had neck surgery and it may be nothing more than scar tissue - that is what I think it is.

I'm not really complaing - some of you have gone through Sooooo much more than me - I just wanted to "say it !".

Well snoodles, what a time you've had! I swear, if you look for something, you'll find more than you bargained for!

I remember years ago when we were looking for MS, my blood showed that I carry the Scleroderma Gene...and COULD get it. That's where your organs and skin turn to rock The Rhumatologist scratched his head when I got there, and said to go home and not think of it again

No such luck for you this time! I sure hope this turns out to be a simple thing for you and nothing to worry yourself about.

10 vials! I can relate to that! You want to ask them where your juice and cookie are! Passing them your way...

We found out my husband had two nodules on his thyroid after he was in a bad ski accident (a snowboarder landed on his head) and had to have a whole body MRI because he had been unconcious for several days and nothing showed up on the CT-scan (in addition to the thyroid nodules, we found he also had nodules on his spleen).

Anyway, he has to see the endocrinologist every six months to measure the size of his thyroid nodules, and once per year they take a biopsy.

The endocrinologist said that if the nodules got larger than 4 cm?/mm? (don't remember if it was cm or mm...but it was DEFINATELY *4*) they would have to remove his thyroid.

The funny thing was that his sister had her thyroid removed for the same reason. Nodules on her thyroid that got too large.

Hope you're not living with too many "I told you so"'s..I hate when that happens. It IS a good thing you had it checked out, though. Maybe you're right about the scar tissue, but even just run of the mill hypothyroid can make you feel like the stuff on the bottom of your shoe...Keep us posted on what you find out, and best of luck!

Geez Snoods' what the heck??? Hope all your tests come back normal and that you just have MS. Isn't that a terrible thought? But seems like everyone you talk to is dealing w/a new ailment.

I love your attitude and wish I could adopt it. I have an MRI tomorrow for my back... and I'm not looking forward to it. My DD is having a Hidascan today as has polyps on her GB and scar tissue on her kidney. No wonder I'm a wreck.. Send me some of your wonderful attitude....

I will think good thoughts for ya and will keep you in my prayers.

PS: Did the lab tech have a black cape on and exceptionally large canine teeth?

Hope everything comes back ok. This is a lot you are going through.

I think my record for blood test vials is 13. If I had known ahead of time, I would have had someone drive me. I swear Dracula or his cousin runs those labs.

Default Thank you all !!

Greenjeans
I agree – and I just need to stop looking !!! LOL The Scleroderma Gene sounds very scary – I like your Rheumies answer though – I think – since worrying about it wont change a thing.

The Bird
I am so sorry that you are also dealing with a thyroid growth !!! Hopefully we will both get good news or at least no more bad news !!!!

Victorya
It seems these thyroid things do run in families – in fact – we have a strong family history of thyroid problems (including thyroid cancer). My Mother also had ¾ of her thyroid removed. I hope your husband will not to have his removed or partially removed…. The biopsy does not sound pleasant at all !!!

Polar Express
Yes – I am getting the “I told you so’s” So funny that you mentioned that !!! I thanked my daughter for sending me. You are also right about feeling like the stuff on the bottom of your shoe – I always feel that way !!!

DaisyMay
I agree – so many people are dealing with multiple dx’s, in fact, the Endocrineologist told me that often times autoimmune illness tends to cluster and many people will have several different dx.
I hope you MRI went well – I don’t like them either . As for attitudes – I think yours is absolutely TOPS – just the best !!!!
I will try and watch for an update from you about your scan and your DD scan – you more than enough on your plate !!! It is always much more worrisome when our children are having health problems !!!
Keeping you and DD in my prayers !!!

PS: I should have checked out that tech a little closer… LOL

Thank you for your good wishes !!!

Weegot5kiz
Thank you and I hope your Mom will have very good results – nothing bad to deal with !!! It’s always something isn’t it ????
