Did you feel better after all the fillings were out? I have 4 large and 4 small mercury fillings and have been thinking about having them removed but I don't know if it really will help.

No, made no difference except for cosmetically when I open my mouth, its all white There is alot of debate still on whether it causes a problem or not...I went with safe rather than sorry. I suspect that when they were actually placed that the problem would have occured at that time. You won't find many dentists using almalgom anymore. If you do, the dentist is not up to speed and is trying to save a buck, IMHO.

I wanted to do the same last year when I got diagnosed. My neuro and my regular doctor both said not to do it. That amalgam is safe.

Well, I finally got a new dentist (fired the old one when he threw a hissy fit because my body doesnt metabolize novocaine normally like other people)

The new dentist told me that I will HAVE to have all of my amalgams replaced, because she said they're cracking my teeth, and that they're extremely old and she believes they're high mercury content. I'm still trying to get over a cough I got when I had bronchitis in January, and from the cold I got last week. That's finally starting to improve, so I'm making an appointment for the removal and replacement with composite fillings very soon. I cant wait!!! My teeth are naturally ugly, and the amalgam just adds to to the ugliness.

After I get the amalgams out, I'm going to do Invisalign (kind of like plastic braces that you change every two weeks. Little plastic cap thingies you wear over your teeth) My teeth are all straight except for my lower front teeth. I want to get that fixed. (my old dentist never told my parents to put me in braces)

After all that! I'm going to have the truly cosmetic work done. I'm going to get veneers put on my teeth to make them look totally normal. (my teeth have soft enamel due to a birth defect I have, and most of the enamel is gone and my teeth are weird colored now)

I cant wait to do all of this, and I HATE dentists with a serious passion (my very first dentist I had when I was really young had tied me down to do a few fillings, and was just generally a quack, screwed up some of my permanent teeth)

I just cant wait to get rid of the amalgams. That's the most important dental work that I think I need. I could do without the other stuff if I can just get rid of the amalgams. I dont have dental insurance, so my dad said he'd pony up the money for all the dental work. (yay dad!)

That's one of the big things I want, white instead of ugly silver metal when I open my mouth. Everyone in my family but me have halfway decent looking teeth. I think the way my teeth look, make people look at me like I'm uneducated just because I have ugly teeth. I'm pretty sure it cost me a job or two.

My last dentist (not the quack that tied me down when I was 4) still uses amalgam...he also misdiagnosed my mom when she needed a root canal. Claimed she didnt have any infection. Took her to my new dentist, and she immediately put my mom on antibiotics...apparently there was a raging infection in her tooth.

The new dentist's office makes the old guy's office look like something out of the Old West. It was like walking into Sickbay on the Starship Enterprise. All sorts of neat gadgets. Computers all over the place. The old dentist's office hasnt been remodeled since sometime in the early 1980's, and smells like developer (still uses the older x-ray machines...new dentist uses digital x-rays)

The old dentist, I think, had been ignoring my mother's complaints about painful teeth. (she's had some brain damage from a coma she was in when she was 17, and is not the best at describing where pain is and what it feels like)

The new dentist was great. She allowed me to go in with my mom, and let me help my mom describe stuff. (I do the "1-10" pain scale to get my mom to describe how bad things are. My mom is very non-specific when a doctor is trying to get a history from her because she cant describe stuff very well due to aphasia)

I did CPR on this thread because we just had ANOTHER stupid curly bulb blow out and go all stinky! Bob just brought one in from the hen house, and it stinks sitting there in the foyer waiting to go down to the garage. He says it smells AWFUL in the hen house (poor chickens)!

It didn't last any "five years" either. There must be fine print about "normal usage", whatever THAT means.

Man, I'm trying to do the right thing here, and saving on the energy bill, but PEEOOOWEEE!

Is it true that "regular" light bulbs will soon be a thing of the past? I thought the "curly fries" (loved the description DM!) were just a fad. No?

I hate the CF bulbs too. I have trouble seeing and like to have bright light when reading or cooking. I don't think the curly fries are bright enough.

Erin, you'll have to deal with me about the stockpiling!! I'm aiming to get them all!!

I'm going to buy some real lightbulbs tonight or tomorrow. They're on sale this week at a local store. I'm going to get about $20 worth of bulbs. (not sure how many packages of them that is)

The "green" bulb that my dad put in one of the can lights in the kitchen last summer quit working last week. (that wasnt any 5years! more like 7 months!)

Now, one of us is going to have to climb up there and get the bulb, and then place it in two of the magically protective Ziploc bags and then take it to the recycling center that you need an appointment to drop stuff off at. (I think you pay for it too)

Interesting that you have to use TWO Ziplocs to dispose of the bulbs. I wonder if it's a conspiracy between the lightbulb companies and the makers of Ziploc bags to make more money?

I personally HATE CFL's!!

I hate fluorescent's in general!!!

They give me a headache and I have super sensitive hearing and can hear the buzz coming off of these bulbs. Drives me batty!!! (ok... I know that's a short trip...)

My room is the only room in the house that uses the good old incandescent.

Guess I need to stock up....

I can hear the buzz too, depending on what kind of noise is going on in the house.

I hate the way they flicker...sometimes it seems like I'm the only one here that can see the flickering. My parents swear that the CFL's that we do have in a few certain light fixtures, are perfectly fine and dont flicker or buzz. I know I'm not nuts. (at least not when it comes to the CFL's) I'm just more sensitive to that type of light than the two of them.
