muchas gracias, Finny and Annie!
you guys are soooooo sweet. lol, I just looked back at my last set of posted pics, and REALIZED that my vision must be getting kinda blurry. the photo with the three goslings on my tiled wheelchair ramp is really FUZZY... I didn't even NOTICE that when I uploaded it, resized it, and posted it. THREE chances to see it was a terrible pic, and I missed 'em all, whoopsie daisy! :o:rolleyes::p |

When ya got fuzzy vision it works both ways. Us lookers see it just right! :) That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :D |

I like the wok woks too!! Thank God they are back!! I dare say that most of us are indebted to Olivia for this wok wok thread! Thanks Olivia!! oh.... and thank YOU too, Kay! |
CayoKay, my dear 4yo granddaughter came over to Gramma's house tonight. We looked at every picture and she giggled with delight.
Just when I thought we were done, she wanted to look at them again...and again!!! Wish I could keep a sample of that laughter in a bottle, so I could uncork it and listen to it anytime I want!!! Thanks for such a cute thread! |
Kay, I still think doing a children's book with your photos and some of your stories would be awesome. Kids would love it. This could be your calling and it would make so many kids smile and giggle.:D

and here I was all embarrassed for my Ms-iness! it's update time for Chez Kay Farm: Here's the "Keyhole Manger" that mi esposo just designed and built for our goats: http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/3378/dscn4870fu7.jpg pictures taken after completion of project yesterday (near sunset), sorry about the dim lighting. http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/8518/dscn4864ac9.jpg watering pail, accessible from outside, for easy refilling, and NON-tipability: http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5297/dscn4878bg3.jpg here's Leto, checkin' out his new bed: http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/795/dscn4880xg6.jpg |
Now, what animals do you want to look at next, Olivia?
I have bunny rabbits (7 - Brad, Janet, RiffRaff, Frank, Furter, Columbia, Magenta) and geese (7 - Gandalf, Glinda, Gwynneth, Larry, Curly, Mo, and Connor) and pigs (2 - Kevin Bacon and Honey Hamhocks) and goats (3 - Leeloo, Lila, and Leto) and guinea pigs (22) and ducks (63) and chickens (76) tell me what you want to see, and I'll take a picture tomorrow, if it's not raining. |
Sing with me Olivia,
"'Ole Ms. Kayo had a farm . . . ." Thanks for the pictures. The goats are so cool. |

but I'm so tired from FEEDING 'em all, there's no energy left for a book. if somebody ELSE wants to do it, I'd be happy to supply the pics! today was a *really* big day... went to the US Embassy, learned how to get my SSDI direct deposit here, and registered to vote from abroad, and renewed my visa, and worked on my Residency paperwork and stuff... so, I'm about total TOAST. :D:p:D Kay's gonna go to BEDDY-Bye, at 7:30 pm, lol! |

There's nothing like a child's laughter. Its innocence warms the heart. ............................and................... ............ Kay Dear, Just in case Olivia does not get back to you, I'd like to see pictures of EVERYTHING! :Excited: P l e a s e!!! |
record it as a sound byte for your cell phone or on your PC
I feel the same way about a childs smile its gleams of joy and energy and hope |
Deep in the jungle there was a wonderful woman named Kay.
She had many animals and fed them everyday. Ok, well that's a start. Right? I'd have to look at the pictures again to come up with something else. Kids not only love baby animals but rhymes as well. I wrote a little book for my niece and she loved all the rhyming words and the fairies. LOL. Come to think of it, adults like rhymes as well. Hope you are getting some much needed rest. |

:grouphug: that keyhole manger took mi esposo practically ALL day to make... see, he had to keep going back and adjusting it. the goats' heads (horns and all) have to fit in above, and then, they slide their heads IN and down to get their grain, hay, and treats. but they're all DIFFERENT sizes, and it's a communal area. so, the biggest keyhole (for Leto) had to let HIM get food, but NOT let little Lila fit her BODY through, and possibly get trapped, stuck - half in and half out. goats are REALLY fussy about their food (they don't eat tin cans, either!) and will NOT eat anything that touches the ground. they waste a LOT of food, 'cause they're messy.... luckily, the ducks and chickens clean up pretty good... but they don't eat hay. so, the keyhole manger solves the problem, VOILA !! |
Henny Penny has a SECRET !!
I noticed she'd been sneaking off, and didn't know what she was UP to. usually, hens just lay their eggs, and go off to play. but sometimes, they suddenly decide to collect a PILE of eggs, and SET on them. I guess Henny Penny wanted some baby CHICKIES to play with, so she found a nice QUIET spot, at the VERY TIPPY TOP of the goats' hay rack, in the back corner of the barn. I went in the barn to get some flakes of hay, and LOOK what I found! http://kayleon.ourbelize.net/pictures/DSCN3132.JPG of course, that wasn't a very SAFE place for little baby chickens to hatch, so we "rescued" the nest, Mama Henny Penny and all, and made her a nice little home to safely raise her family. here they are, 21 days later, on HATCHING day: http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5424/dscn3509ar0.jpg http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4...cn35131iy8.jpg Henny Penny let us cuddle one of her new babies: http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/3675/dscn3506uh8.jpg |
Olivia says bunnies pigs and one not on the list....tuttles! (Turtles)
Thanks as always!!! Note to self...start writing kayo's book! |
When I run away to the jungles of Belize and find Kayo, I can help with the book, too!
|
Olivia ??
Here's some bunny pictures, just for YOU, Baby Girl !! :grouphug: ;) ;) :grouphug: http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2120/dscn3459na3.jpg One day, in Janet's bunny hutch, I spotted a little pile of rabbit fur, and I figured out why, so I brought her a bowl. http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/8440/dscn3461ph7.jpg When a lady bunny starts pulling clumps of fur, it's because she wants to make a NEST, and I wanted to give her a nice private place to build it. http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/5476/dscn3466hz5.jpg Two days later, bunnies were born, all PINK and squirmy. Mama Janet gives bunny milk to her babies. http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7032/dscn3487qd2.jpg When Janet leaves her bowl to eat and drink, she carefully covers her babies with nice soft fur, to keep them warm, because they don't have any fur yet. http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3338/dscn3504bw7.jpg The babies start to grow their own pretty white fur... http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3844/dscn3578th1.jpg Here's one of the bunnies, eating cabbage, and growing up healthy and strong. |
Good morning, Olivia.
How are you doing today, my little friend? It's time for us to take a walk over to the Bunny Hutch, and meet some of my bunnies! This is Frank and Furter: http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/8127/dscn4958wb7.jpg And here is Columbia and Magenta: http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/6131/dscn4948iq3.jpg My bunnies' favorite time of day is dinner. http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/1203/dscn4956gu4.jpg Today, they are having crispy celery leaves, tender cabbage, juicy lettuce, and crunchy carrots. http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5743/dscn4964vj7.jpg They also eat bunny pellets, made from alfalfa, and have special water bottles that hang on their house walls, and drip water ONLY when a bunny sips at the nozzle. The bunnies have little wheels of salt, so they get all the minerals they need. Plus, they get fresh grass to nibble on, and hay to romp in. |
Olivia LOVES the babies!!! LOL Her grandma does too! I swear 'were hopping a flight one of these days!
|
um, NaeNae?
did Olivia want to see my REAL pig-pigs? or more of the Guinea pigs? :D |
Quote:
Can I be a seatmate? :D I hate flying alone! |

Um, yes, Carolina would like to see both! :D:p:D |
okeydokey!
I'm headed out now to toss corn and cabbage, and pass out celery, carrots, and lettuce to my critters. with luck, I'll be able to snap some pix! :D |
Kay,
I am fascinated with your pictures & captions! You have to be one awesome person because your descriptions are just filled with compassion for these lovely animals. Can't wait for the next chapter. Watching your critters grow is really cool! Thanks to Olivia for letting us enjoy this with her. |
Good evening, Olivia!
Or, as we say down here in Belize: "Buenos tardes, senorita Olivia!" *** Here are my two pigs. http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/6137/dscn4996tr0.jpg Pigs are pretty boring... mostly, they just like to lay around, roll in the mud, and eat lots of food. Pigs will eat almost everything, even kitchen scraps... and now you know why they're called PIGS !! Because they're messy like pigs, and they eat like pigs! *** Next, I want to show you the Bunny House. This kind of building in the rainforest is called a "Palapa" http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/3093/dscn4988fh5.jpg Palm fronds are tied together to make the palapa roof, and the poles that hold up the roof are called "bush sticks" - they're small tree trunks. If you notice, there's no WALLS to the Bunny House, that's because it's hot here in the jungle, so this helps the bunnies keep cool, and they won't get WET when it rains. My palapa is very fancy, it has a sink with running water, so I can refill their bottles, and even electricity, in case I have to go there at night, there's a light under the palm leaf roof. *** Here is one of my chickens, she's a Hyline Brown Hen, and she's sitting on a nest full of eggs. in 21 days the eggs will hatch, and we will have baby chickens! http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/4867/dscn4995pt2.jpg *** This is one of my guinea pigs... She's going to have babies soon. http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/5756/dscn4100uo7.jpg *** Here's a picture of Moe, standing in front of his mama Gwyn. Little Connor is off to the side, and they're all eating corn and lettuce. http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/4489/dscn4999od9.jpg As you can see, Moe has grown VERY fast (he is only five weeks old, but getting almost as big as his mom!) *** The last picture today is of my chickens having a WATERMELON party. http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/4458/dscn5017kz0.jpg Yum yum yummy yum! They just LOVE pecking that watermelon! |
Here's how we built our Bunny House, last month:
We had three helpers come over, to teach us how things are done in the jungle. We needed a cool spot for our animals, with shade, and protection from the rain. Our neighbors Antonio Sr., his son Antonio Jr., and Seņor Amelio built it in one day. It was fascinating to watch them layering the fronds, and securing them to the bush-stick pole frame. http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/8822/dscn4626ad3.jpg The bush-stick frame is now in place. http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/8416/dscn4629ee0.jpg Here's Amelio sorting the fronds by size, for different parts of the roof. http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/1481/dscn4757ls9.jpg Antonio Jr. is helping his daddy, by passing up the next piece. http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/1936/dscn4760dk6.jpg Interior view, with Antonio Sr. attaching the palm fronds. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...y/DSCN4747.jpg Almost finished.... and then we'll all have some nice cold limonade! |
thanks for sharing this, enjoy it for all its worth, I would give anything, to do what you are doing, :) I really enjoyed your home page kay wonderfully done.
|
um, Frank? just so you know...
many of my friends 'n' family back in the States thought I'd lost my mind, running off to the jungle to create a farm. because of my MS, and the temperature thing, ya know? I'm SPMS, and wanted to build a fully accessible house, and create my dream of raising all my own food, and taking better care of myself, living and eating simple and healthy. but I couldn't afford to HAVE my dream in the US... especially on SSDI. so, I'm glad you don't think I'm bonkers, honey! :D;):D |
no I dont, think your as mad as a hatter, years ago I drew up house plans using solar and wind power and farming like you are but as you said its not afforable here, its dang impossible, on my income now.I give you the creidt for living your dream, as your erica says nothing ventured is worse
now as to bonkers, after the car trip yesterday have we got hubbys final say on this?:yikes: Thank you for sharing |
Frank just reminded me about your homepage. I've just spent the last hour there......Lovely!!!:) Thanks for the tour of your wonderful home, farm and zoo.
I am too bugaphopic to live where you do, but I so enjoy the view.:D Quote:
|
Thank you, Sally... you're very kind.
I'm bugophobic too! I'm sure people could hear me SCREAM all the way to Guatemala when that boa constrictor was caught in our front door screen... and last week, I found a giant scorpion on the bathroom floor... almost 5 inches long, from front to tail-tip. I'd show ya, but I promised *certain people* that I wouldn't post bug/snake pics here anymore, so we're just looking at the NICE parts of farming in the jungle. :D:):D |
LOL...I come from a long line of Bugaphobics.
My very rich Aunt and Uncle bought a big beautiful home in the Fla Keys and the first night they were settling in, My Aunt pulled back the covers to find a scorpion on her pillow.. She left the house and went to a hotel for the night. They sold the house and moved back to Ohio, never to return to that house..LOL! So, you being able to stay there after all the scaries you've had, makes you a mighty brave Bugaphobic..:D |
Kay, I just wanted to say I admire you more than you could know..
I know you started this thread for Olivia, but I've enjoyed it as much as she has, I'm sure..And I've learned a lot! Just wanted to say thanks! |
Olivia, Olivia !!
You know how your mama tells you to eat all of your fruit and vegetables? http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/7221/dscn5015lj0.jpg well, just LOOK at how good the hens cleaned up this watermelon! There's nothing but RIND left, after their little peckin' party yesterday. http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/3521/dscn5027lo7.jpg the chickens and ducks also chowed down on a giant papaya, and a canteloupe. http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/4097/dscn5026fl5.jpg I get the fruit for free at the vegetable market, 'cause they're smashed or cracked. my hens and ducks sure seem to know what's GOOD for them! I also grow fruit here at my farm. These are delicious tiny bananas that taste sort of like apples, they're called Manzana Bananas (Manzana means apple en Espaņol) http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9162/dscn5028xp5.jpg Yesterday, I sliced these all up and put them in my dehydrator. http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/4329/dscn4123fj9.jpg tomorrow, we'll look at more animals here... especially the guinea pigs, okay Olivia? |
Kay I read about your sprained ankle!!! be careful girl all thoses animals need you! Not to mention you need both of your feet!
|
LOL we posted at the same time Olivia said where's the wok woks???
|
okay, Olivia, your Mama says you want to see Wok-Woks now.
so, I'll wait awhile to take my nappy. :p:o:p Here's a guinea pig Mama... her fur color is called Calico. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7482/dscn2200kc6.jpg Here's a guinea pig baby, just born, and still damp from Mama licking him all clean. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9649/dscn3871js7.jpg He looks pretty FUNNY doesn't he? He's squinting up at the whole bright wide world, and wondering WHAT are these huge THINGS holding him! *** Here's one of my silly gooses: http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/3286/dscn2615hv7.jpg Her name is Glinda, named after the Good Witch, in The Wizard of Oz. Here's where my goosies all live, in the Goose House... It has a RAMP that the Wok-Woks can walk up and be SAFE inside at night. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/1066/dscn2629hq6.jpg If you look VERY close, you can see one of the GEESE in the window! *** Here's Glinda and Gandalf (named after the wizard in The Hobbit. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9828/dscn3170fh1.jpg Glinda and Gandalf enjoy guarding my baby chickens... my geese work HARD taking care of little babies, they make very good babysitters! But watch out, honey! Our friend Sandy might POP UP at any moment! And last, here's one of my duckies, sitting on her NEST full of eggs. Her name is Halle... (like Halle Berry) Can you guess what's Halle's saying to me right now? http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/5138/dscn4947lp3.jpg I think she is saying: "Hiss, hiss... Can't you see, I'm BUSY on this nest right now?" :D:):D |
