Hola, Olivia! Que pasa, bonita chiquita?

(That means, "Hello, Olivia? What's going on, pretty little one?" in Spanish)

Here's your daily dose of Wok-Woks...

A pair of new-born Guinea Pigs:

another guinea pup:

These were born last autumn, but right now, we have THREE Guinea-Ladies about to become mothers.

Here's something funny (well, funny for your MOM, even if you don't get the joke, lol!)

En Espaņol (in Spanish), being pregnant is called embarazado, you know, like, being EMBARRASSED !!

anyway, by next week, I'll have a whole BUNCH of new Wok-Wok Guinea Babies to show you!

and honey? YOU get to help me NAME them, okay?

I hope you're having a nice day today, Olivia, and being a GOOD little girl while your sweet Mom is feeling cruddy.

Olivia? It's WOK-WOK time once again!

sorry I haven't done pictures for a few days, but I've been so busy...

so, HERE we GO !!

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/5696/dscn5031nx9.jpg
"This EATING is HARD WORK !! Think I'll lay down on the job!"

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6518/dscn5043vc3.jpg
All the goosies RUN down the path, and FOLLOW me around the farm.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6214/dscn5045ox2.jpg
I put down my bags of duck-food to snap a picture of the geese following me, but they are too FAST! They catch up, and start RAIDING the ducks' cabbage and corn!

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/8421/dscn5047hf5.jpg
"Hey, this is good, but where's my LETTUCE ??"

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/1139/dscn5033zc5.jpg
"Wonder how Mom's JEANS taste?"

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/2180/dscn5040bs7.jpg
"My FEATHERS are growing in now. Aren't they PRETTY?"

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/5561/dscn5048oy5.jpg
"Ahhhhhhh, here's our LETTUCE, at LAST!! Thanks, Mom!"

Hope you liked today's Wok-Woks, brought to you by Auntie Kay-in-the-jungle.

:):cool::)

Thank God, the wok-wok thread is back!!! Thank you, Good Friend Kay-in-da-jungle!!!

CayoKay 04-20-2008 07:51 PM

ya know what's funny, Carolina?

Larry actually had a FOLD of my jeans (at the knee) clamped in his little beak!

I was squatting down, trying to pick up all the cabbage the Wok-Woks spilled, and he just had to see if I was edible.

just like human babies, puttin' EVERYTHING in their mouths, lol!

:winky:

Yo! Olivia!

It's WOK-WOK time again, brought to you by your friendly friend in the jungle...

***

Today's pictures are of baby chickens... hatched right here in our house!

This is our little incubator:

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/484/dscn5078cz8.jpg

It holds 42 eggs, and they take 3 weeks to hatch...

Yesterday was the big event... when I woke up I heard *cheep-cheep-cheep" coming from my living room!

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/9543/dscn5081vy1.jpg

Here's the new babies getting their first view of the big wide world!

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/3161/dscn5084mc7.jpg

Here's a WET chickie-baby who just cracked out of his shell:

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/1754/dscn5085iv6.jpg

The first thing I had to do was find a nice BIG box, and get all the stuff ready:

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/4904/dscn5079so5.jpg

Here's what you can see inside the box... there's a feeder which holds ground corn, a self-filling water dish, and absorbent wood chips layer the floor to keep things clean.

Next, we have to transfer the new hatchlings from the incubator to the box...

Here they are, all cozy and warm in their new home:

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/8969/dscn5088te5.jpg

We put a strong screen over the top, so our Kitty-Cat can't bother the new chickies.

Also, we put a light bulb at the top, to keep the babies warm.

Here's two of our chickens that did it "naturally" and hatched their own eggs:

These baby chickens hatched last week, and here, their Mom teaches them how to peck for food:

Thank you very much Kay! I was starting to worry about the Wok Wok thread!

I missed it so much!...........:Thanx:

Guess it's nearly time I thought about an Australian animals thread for Olivia as well.
That's if Olivia wants it of course.

CayoKay 05-04-2008 12:09 AM

ahhhhhhhh... I've been busy moving house.

only two hundred yards, but... tiring nonetheless!

Olivia, here's some more critters for you:

This is where my guinea pigs live... in rows of roomy, airy outdoor cages, with water bottles, and feeder-trays:

and here's some pix of my bunnies and guinea pigs all moved in to their nifty new home:

AZjanie 05-04-2008 12:16 AM

Thanks for posting all the pics of your animal family! I do not see how you keep them safe from the bad critters??

CayoKay 05-04-2008 01:02 AM

Janie, at the base of every post in the palapa is a bug-blocker metal plate that keeps out the scorpions, army ants, and crawling things.

the strong cage wire mesh keeps out snakes and wildcats.

the sturdy wood cage frames protect my animals from almost everything except hurricanes.

for that, we have a concrete underground emergency bunker-shelter, that fits the goats, pigs, and all the cages.
