That's wonderful news Kay. I can't think of a better Easter gift.

How cool is this. What great news! I am so happy for you all. (Can't do a happy dance for you right now - leg spasms - but please know I'm doing them in my head for you.)

yo, Kay... Kay2 checkin' in.

glad to hear that "Froggy" is doing better.

I was HOLDING my breath for you all, (as moms do when a baby is horribly ill).

my son Benjamin caught viral meningitis (full medical-type name: Herpetic Meningo-Encephalitus) at 13 weeks of age.

it was touch-and-go for a week, as he lay in-and-out of a coma.

and then there was a LONG recovery period, with seizures and lots of meds (phenobarbital and dilantin) for the next year.

and later, Ben had to SKIP the DPT vaccine, as that (the "P" part, Pertussis, I think) can cause problems.

DPT Vaccine Contraindications

having a sick baby was the SCARIEST time of my life !!!!!

the reason I'm writing NOW, (and didn't earlier) is that I didn't want to scare you, but I want to make sure you know that there may be "future" repercussions to watch for.

my son (now 23) still experiences some deafness as a result of the viral meningitis.

and he had some problems with his left leg, requiring multiple surgeries and serial casting, to get his foot properly positioned (thank heavens for SHRINERS free medical care!)

Benjamin is doing well now, off at college in Oregon.

anyway, I'm breathing a DEEP sigh of relief that Froggy is past the acute stage, and is on the mend now.

God bless his little soul!!!

Kay, PM me if you have any questions about this, things have changed a lot medically since 1983, but much remains the same...

Thumbs Up Thank god for Mom's and Dad's for noticing the sign

I am new to your forum but I wanted say Froggy you very Luck, you should be congradulated. I was not so lucky. My viral Meninigitas was not detected until i developed several lesions on my brain which formed into me having seizures which replicated to a TIA strokes. After the ER doctor misdiagnosed me with migraines and sent me home. It was not until a family member who are RN's suggest I seek out a Nerologist to investigate more did I some what found out what going on.

I am still battling my after effects to my Virial Meninigitas which I contracted in early March 08. For almost 2 1/2 weeks the Dr's couldnt figure out how, why and when I could control the seizures. All my test came back normal except my MRI, Spinal tape. Everytime I went for a follow up more lesion appeared. I have also been on the same meds and I know the feeling not knowing when its going to end. my prays go out to you. I am going for 2nd spinal tap. Which I dont look forward too.

I hope this spinal tape show something anything. My next route is to go under a lesionectomy, which I have ready as much as I can or found but I still am very worried as the lesions are still forming with no really answers to why. The only good new is the its not MS, ALS, Parkinson.
