Default For Major Tom and to make sure we remember

ON 03/22 http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/st...ain/index.html

STS-123 Mission Specialists Robert L. Behnken and Mike Foreman completed the fifth spacewalk of their mission at 10:36 p.m. EDT Saturday...

How awesome is that????

Have any of you looked at the space station through binoculars or a telescope? Right now, except for the moon, it is the brightest thing in the sky. To find sighting time in your area go to http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata...e&city=Augusta

Have you tuned to NASA channel and made your kids watch?

Have you followed what your tax dollars pay for and develop? Have you paid attention to one of the only actual international collaborations in the world today? This stuff is HOT!

Imma gonna market a whole astronaut/ support thing now !!

Thanks for posting that, beautiful.
That reminds me... I need to bug our resident rocket scientist Big Tom about getting a ride into space.

Yes, Yes, Yes, and YES!! I love this stuff RW - the sightings are not visible till Tuesday I think here in Maine at least but come next week they are back to the evening hours so I don't have to get up so early! And the weather we have had here we haven't been able to watch it -

Thanks to Tom and all at NASA who are working to better our lives in so many ways. They do so much for human's up there that we don't even know!

I love NASA TV - and for those of you who don't get it you can watch it on the computer like we do!

Great Post RW

I really appreciate people recognizing the space program for what has evolved from it and not simply for its accomplishment of immediate goals. We all benefit from it - and it's not just Tang and Velcro... Think MRI's, CTscans, cardiosascular surgery techniques (ok, I'll get off this direction now), tennis rackets, domed stadiums, cordless vacuum cleaners...... A bunch of stuff. The list is pretty extensive.

The sighting website is kinda neat. If ya get an opportunity to see the station passing overhead when the shuttle's docked it's really bright/big. We're also tracking the ATV sightings now too (ATV - Automated Transfer Vehicle, Europe's unmanned re-stocking supply vehicle for the Station).

Not that Tang didn't make it all worthwhile, all by itself.

But I never knew all that Tom. Very interesting. I guess each invention had its own source. Maybe the different environment, getting all those smart people in one place, or specific needs they'd have out there... or just having quiet time to think without dogs yapping and kids whining.

Still, makes you think what people can come up with when set in different circumstances and forced to survive under unique pressures. I never would have guessed they'd come up with the Silver Dome.
