Default my run in with a nice cop..

not that exciting of a story but if you are bored..

i went out yesterday to take some movies back and get some food.. i was to lazy to clean the snow off my truck so i took the wifes jeep which we always garage and i don't drive that much.. so i am driving down a long straight rural road that i travel just about everyday.. my mind is not really on my speed.. i was actually thinking about everything that has been going on in my life but still paying close attention to the road.. just not my speed.. it felt like i wasn't going that fast..

as i go buy a little side road that is well known for a speed trap.. i catch a glimpse of a car out of the corner of my eye.. ( the state boys park back in far enough so you cant see them until you are right on top of them and hit ya with the radar gun) but that totally slipped my mind yesterday..

i just kept on my merry way.. as i look in my rear view.. i notice a car coming up on me fast.. a few seconds later the lights come on... i really had no idea how fas i was going.. so i just pull over to let him by thinking something must have happened and he is on his way there .. he slides in behind the jeep.. and i say "oh crud" and pull to a stop and roll down the window.. and then comes the wait for him to get out of his car and come talk to you...

you know the wait that in "real time" is only like 15 seconds but seems like about 4hrs.. i could have solved a rubix cube in the time it felt like it took for him to get to the window..

Officer: sir did you know the speed limit on this road is 35mph?

Me: honestly yes i did know that...

Officer: just got away from ya a little today did it?

Me: yes it really must have..

Officer: well i clocked you doing 62.. and that is $2xx.00 fine and 3 points on your license..

Me: oh man

Officer: license/insurance and reg.... (long pause)..... tell ya what.. i am going to run these and if you have no prior violations i will let you go with a warning..

Me: ok

i have nothing on my record i am 95% of the time a very careful driver so i wasn't to worried.. i had been pulled over before for stupid stuff i know better then to do.. but never given anything other then a verbal warning..

another 2day wait and 27 more rubix cubes solved and he comes back to the window..

Officer: i am just going to issue you this warning. but please keep your speed down on this road from now on.

Me: i will, and thank you letting me off with a warning.

Officer: ok sir have a nice day.

Me: thank you.. you to.

i still have yet to run into a mean cop but this was the first time i ran into a overly nice cop.. usually they are quite stern but not mean in any respect..

he was a younger guy around my age late 20s early 30s.. i don't know maybe he was just having a good day or has yet to deal with stupid people that want to argue when they know they are wrong.. so he was not as quick to take out the ticket pad yet.. and i am not one to argue with a cop its just easer to let them do their job and keep my mouth shut..even more so if i know i screwed up..

anyway ya look at it i was happy. and i drove like a granny the rest of the day..

thats my boring story.. and i just felt like typing today.

Hey PunkD

I enjoyed your story. It was like I was sitting in the back seat. Maybe you can spice it up and submit it as a screenplay.

I'm always happy to hear a good cop story. My Dad is a retired Cleveland Police officer and I've spent my whole life defending cops. I realize they all can't be as great as Dad, and there definitely are some baddies out there.

Thanks for creating balance in the cop universe.

Good for you! Finally a break!

I was reading the "Job qualifications' for our local police a few months ago (still looking for work and just bored) and one of the things on the list was "Above Reproach". I LOL....but understood. This is how these men and women are, must be. They also must have compassion. These two things are evident in MOST of our Officers. Never met a cop I didn't like....even when I GOT the ticket.

Hey Drew,

Good story! It's got to be sunny where you are now, even if it's not. Anytime one gets a free ride from an officer of the law is a gooood day!

What a nice story - thanks for sharing it! My son is a police office and he has to deal with all sorts of people. He really does have compassion for people who just innocently "mess up" but none for the ones who harm others (especially children).

It's nice to read about people being nice to each other. Police Officers are just people, too, with worries and problems like the rest of us. He really does try to take into account the circumstances of the situation and who he is dealing with. But sometimes it comes down to a judgement call - and they have to make them on the spur of the moment a lot of the time.

I say a prayer for my son and all police officers everyday that they will stay safe while they are working to help keep us all safe.

I gotta tell you my story too!!

I was working the night shift in a steel plant in Iowa years ago and got off work at 3:00 AM, hot, sweaty, tired and I just want to get home and go to bed.

Now folks; usually at 3:00 AM there are no cars on the road but drunks and wierd nite shift people so not a lot of traffic on the highway.

All of a sudden I see red and blue flashing lights behind me!

I glance at the speedometer and the thing says 75! Yikes! I am in a 55 zone!

Yes officer; I am wearing my seatbelt, no I am sorry I just wasn't aware I was speeding but I just got off work and just want to get home and get these steel toed boots off!!

The officer looked at my feet and said those are steel toed boots? I said yes; and I won't wear them when I am driving any more.

He laughed and said I am giving you a warning but there better not be a lead foot in those boots!

I have saved that warning ticket all these years and keep in in the glove box as a reminder of my lead foot adventure!
