I'm so sorry for the loss of your uncle. It's so sad, cancer can be such a tough battle.
God Bless you & your family through this tough time.

My dad seems to be a lot freaked out about his b-in-law dying. I think my dad always thought that he would be the first male to go in the family, and now he's the last male of that generation left. All the other males (2 cousins) are from my generation, and they're all a lot younger than I am. I no longer have any uncles on that side of the family, but I'm the only one who's still got my dad around, but my dad does have cardiomyopathy now, which is similar to whatever it was my dad's younger brother died of in the mid 1990s. All the treatments back then were experimental, so my dad has the benefits of all the research that was done back then that my uncle was one of the guinea pigs for. My dad is also not as sick as his brother was. My dad's got 25% (or more) of his heart muscle left. His brother only had 6% of his heart muscle when he was diagnosed and his heart was still going pretty strong when he died, it was his pancreas that killed him. (pancreatitis) I dont think I'll be going to my uncle's funeral. I havent gone to a funeral since I was very young. (I have a bit of a funeral phobia here) Plus it's probably a couple of towns over, and since I had optic neuritis, I'm not comfortable driving on the highway at all now, even tho my eyes are mostly healed now. I think I'll order a nice display of yellow and red roses for my aunt. Or something else...not sure what's really appropriate. For my grandmother's funeral, I ordered a heart shaped display for her casket that was yellow roses with red roses around the outside border of the heart.

Erin, I am so very sorry for your loss. All I can say be grateful for the time you had - forget the bad - remember the good. I have no family left and had to make arrangements for the last 2.
Don't worry about not going. I have funeral phobia too. I went to my Grand-Mother's. Grand-Father's, and the last - my mother. The others I did just as u plan to. When mother passed someone called the florist I was using for casket flowers and sent a stand up matching wreath. Everyone make a nice comment on that one. If you are willing/can spend the money - that is my advise on flowers. If not, your idea sounds great! Sheena |
