Default Taxes

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

That's it. I'm in the middle of them. Trying to figure out what's deductible and what's not ( or what I can get away with ) and whether it makes sense to even bother. I could just do the EZ but I hate to leave $$ on the table!

So far I have mortgage points and interest, medical and pharma copays and state and local taxes. Anyone got anything else?? Am I missing anything that should be jumping out at me here? I forgot to get receipts for the Goodwill stuff last year! Can I deduct pain and suffering from doing the taxes??? Time spent doing them?..LOL!

YUCK! I'm so glad I don't have to deal w/the tax thing. DH takes all the paperwork to the accountant and I just sit and smile.

Good luck RW and I definitely give you permission to deduct anything you want. Just sign your tax form Cindy's name.

Since I'm a retired Accountant, I don't do my taxes anymore..LOL! I let Tax Act Online take care of it. It's either free or it costs me $10 per yr. The only income I have now is from SS and Interest earned, so it's no big deal.

I owe a bit this year, but since the interest rates are dropping, I probably won't next year..

Good luck RW, wish you a big refund..

Other Deductables:
Mileage (partial credit) associated with medical trips
Home office
Repairs & Maintenance
Charities (max out what you can w/o receipts)
Fuel Taxes
Licenses (they are taxes)
Business expenses
Business losses (unpaid invoices)

Let me know what you do for a living and maybe I can find more deductions for you.

Well I got them done!

This is the first time I could do a long form since I started paying taxes!

I had interest and points to deduct and I got in all my copays, mileage, ed expenses for work stuff, and a bunch of other stuff! I even got some back for fixing the house up! Who knew!!

I got back a lot more than I expected to, but I think maybe next year I can do better. I started saving ALL my receipts at the start of the year this year.

And Sal?

I used Tax Act too! It was a LOT easier than trying to find forms and booklets and all that!! I'd have paid them if I had to, but it was free for the fed return. I e-filed the state online right at the state website.

Now I am on the man's. I thought it was gonna be easy but there's suddenly a "problem" with the ex.

She filed and claimed the youngster to increase her stimulus check, but she signed away all her rights to claim the kids on taxes in the divorce agreement.

We are mailing this one and attaching copies of previous returns and the divorce agreement showing that he's claimed the kids all along.

(where's that hysterically laughing emoticon when I need it???)

Any cash donations to charitable organizations?
School expenses?
Unreimbursed job expenses
You can write off mileage for driving if you volunteer

The ex could get in a lot of trouble for fraudulent tax practices. Glad to hear your done and sent in the necessary papers to stop her. Some people just don't know when to be quiet do they? lol

Even if you can't claim the children, because of a divorce, if the children live in your home, you can claim Head of Household, which is really the same exemption, for tax purposes. If that's what she claimed, no laws were broken...Sorry RW..

Now that is all that this ex accountant is going to say on the matter...LOL!!!
