*blech* After reading this thread, I can honestly say that I will NEVAH EVAH eat potted meat. I'm glad I haven't ever had any!

LOL! Our brains are no better!

Sandy, "Spare Parts And Meat". In HI, a local talked me into trying their famous musubi which is SPAM/nori sushi. It was awful! They like it with hot mustard and soy sauce (you have to disguise it somehow). SPAM is everywhere down there, breakfast is served with SPAM and rice, no, you do not get a choice.

I think that Underwood Deviled goop is potted meat too. And what's that junk they jam into canned pasta like Chef Boyarewedumb? :Scratch-Head: I can remember kids having that for lunch on Saturdays, I'd see it and claim that my mom was calling me. At least at home I could get a decent PB&J or a homemade meatloaf sandwich.

soxmom 05-01-2008 03:30 PM

I remember being at a friends house when I was young and they would
have chef boyardoo for lunch. I would scrape the meat out of the ravioli
and just swallow the pasta with water , kinda like pill. And then leave
the piles of meat goo on the plate. eeeyuck!!!!lol

SandyC 05-01-2008 06:54 PM

You guys are gonna kill me. I bought four cans of Spaghetti O's today, no meatballs...lmao

AfterMyNap 05-01-2008 06:57 PM

Ya'll think I'm not right? How did you manage to get this thread to go from rice to atrocities committed against meat?

Curious 05-01-2008 07:07 PM

they were making porcipine meatballs?

AZjanie 05-01-2008 11:30 PM

Poor little porkupines!! :(

Are the meatballs served on quills?

NaeNae 05-02-2008 09:03 AM

Speaking of atrocities on meat.......my neighbors dad told me all of the canned soups even the big named one don't really use like regular chicken or beef they mostly use tripe, I will never eat any soup with meat in it again!

SandyC 05-02-2008 09:55 AM

You mean my chicken noodle soup is not real?????????

I think its the lining of a cow's stomach but someone else might chime
in. ugh.:(

SandyC 05-02-2008 10:35 AM

I may become a vegetarian after this thread.

You are right Sox. Tripe is from a cow's stomach. In the SW they use it all the time in a soup called Menudo. It is a Mexican soup. Lots of people really like it. Me, no way! LOL.

PolarExpress 05-02-2008 11:47 AM

There's a lawsuit going on here at the Hormel plant..Several workers have come down with a neurological disorder from breathing in "aspirated pig brains"..I kid you not. Eww.

Kitty 05-02-2008 03:16 PM

I do believe that I'm taking Sandy's suggestion and becoming a vegetarian!!

All this information has really been eye-opening for me....I'm not a big meat eater anyway but now I may just back off of it a little more!

That can be my contribution to stimulating my OWN economy....cutting out meat!!

tkrik 05-02-2008 04:12 PM

Does this thread remind any one of "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair? Now that book would make anyone a vegetarian; at least for a while.

snoodles 05-02-2008 04:13 PM

OMGoodness !!! I am sick.... never knew that !!!! Never even heard of tripe.

Heck, that one is nothing compared to Fast Food Nation! You'll get sick just going past anyplace with a drive-thru!!!

I haven't read that one. I don't go to fast food places anyhow unless I need a good cheap laxative. LOL.

snoodles 05-02-2008 04:42 PM

Well, I've been trying to lose weight - I have certainly lost my appetite today.. :o

I did see fast food nation and it was SCARY...... but I'm still reeling over the tripe... I'm afraid to read that other book..

I think I need a :doctor: now.... Blech! :thud: :vomit:

SandyC 05-02-2008 06:47 PM

You haven't seen anything unless you've seen chitlins cooking with flies all over the place.

AfterMyNap 05-02-2008 06:50 PM

Better than flies cookin' with chitlins all over the place.

Snoodles, are you talking about the documentary, Supersize Me? That was nasty and I was seriously worried about that guy!

DM 05-02-2008 07:29 PM

I repeat >>>>>> :vomit2::vomit2::vomit2::vomit2:

I saw that program and it was nasty; I thought he was going to have a heart attack!!

Riverwild 05-05-2008 04:41 PM

Um...Y'all should know about my day working in the chicken processing plant when I was a youngster.

I needed some money, so I applied. I wasn't old enough, but I was tall and they needed help. I made it through one day.

I got to "flap"...that's where they have one person who drills out the **** opening and pulls the **** and rectal tube out without ripping or breaking it and lets it dangle there. I was next in line and got to cut the new opening from the tube to the backbone. The person after me was the "drawer" who pulled the guts out and let them hang there. # 4 in line was the cutter...who detached all the stuff hanging and let it fall into the sluice below.

The sluice had water running through it and sluiced the guts and all that down to a net at the end of the line. The clean guts were then taken to a separate part of the plant and used to make...

Frankfurters.

I did not eat chicken for years after that.
I will not eat a frankfurter to save my life.
If I have a hotdog it has to be a kosher all beef hotdog and if there is even ONE strange chewy thing or odd spot of color...out it goes...along with all the rest of the hotdogs from the package.

Just in case you didn't know...:p

Victor H 05-05-2008 05:05 PM

RW,

I am both disgusted and pleased.

Disgusted by what is in hotdogs...

Pleased that I used to eat only the Kosher, all-beef type.

However, this entire thread has pushed me over the edge and it looks like a vegan may have just been created here.

I just want to lose my cookies.

Sticking with fresh veggies, fruit, nuts and grains will suit me well.

YIKES !!!

:holysheep: I am totally disgusted........I'm not sure I can ever eat chicken again. :vomit2:

I only eat all beef hotdogs - when I eat them which is not too often. I will not buy the cheapo off brand.

How do you get promoted from one end of the chicken to the other? Does everyone have to start out at "that" end and work their way up?

SandyC 05-05-2008 06:13 PM

"Ball Puke Franks
Made with Beef & Pork, Turkey

Ingredients:
beef and pork, mechanically separated turkey, water, corn syrup, contains less than two percent salt, potassium lactate, partially hydrolyzed beef stock, sodium phosphates, flavorings, sodium diacetate, ascorbic acid (vitamin c), sodium nitrite, extractives of paprika"

I'm morally opposed to all hot dogs! :vomit2:
