Ya'll listen, I grew up on potted meat. My mom bought that stuff like it was going out of stock! It always sat next to her can of sardines which she so eloquently ate with saltines. :vomit:
It wasn't until I was about 12 when I decided to read the label. You just have no idea what's in that crap: Can anyone say mechanically separated chicken, beef hearts, and partially defatted cooked pork fatty tissue? For those who are wanting to be in the know: mechanically separated poultry is a paste-like poultry product made by forcing crushed bone and tissue through a sieve or similar device to separate bone from tissue. Now you know. Maybe this should have been in the WHUH? thread. lol |

That reminds me of the good old days when a fried Spam sandwich, Mac & Cheese and a Pepsi was the basis of my college diet. And then there were those "party nights" when we had Top Ramen Noodles, some fruit that we "liberated" from the University arboretum and a beer. We lived like kings....so we thought. But perception is all that matters... The alternative and more common diet at the time was popcorn and coffee for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now, at I can eat any of those things (but wtill love coffee). -Vic |
I have never eaten spam nor do I intend to same goes for those vienna sausage things!

Have you tried any of those MRE's? The stuff in those lovely packages taste better...but that is only becuase the DoD has changed the names of the ingrediants. For example, "Pot Roast" is really reconsituted C-rations from 1943. Anything that had "stew" in the name was always made with some "potted" stuff (stuff does not mean necessarily that it was a meat!), and then there was always the lasagna...made in a place where shoe leather was mysteriously missing from the region and there were no rodent problems in the manufacturing facility). Oh, the days of MRE's are the same as the days of potted meats...it's just that the lables and packaging were changed! (And..my buddies always wondered why we got a a small bottle of Tabasco and a packet of Chicklets in every MRE...) LOL -Vic |
Ahhhh, but the peanut butter was pretty good!
