Yup, we ordered ours from Iowa. They hatched Friday night, and they mailed them Saturday.

I think the one with the boa is the frizzled cochin in my avatar. We have black ones and red ones that are frizzled also.

Kitt, I wonder if the daddy rooster you mentioned was a Polish? We had some Polish chicks, and that's just how they looked, feathers sticking straight up! What a hoot. They had the same hair-do as the teen-age boy next door.

We have some Sultans and some Silkies, and they are pretty funny looking chicks, too. Maybe this week-end I can get some better pictures.

cool! congratulations on your new arrivals !!

but............ I'm sooooo jealous, B2Y !!

we can't get those breeds here...

the only ones commercially available are Cornish Cross and Hyline Brown.

you know, one kind for meat, and one for eggs... both plain-looking.

in my village, there's a few bantys, but mostly one can't tell the breed of the "local chickens"

one nearby family has some... what LOOK like, maybe... Japanese Bantams ? - we think, (they didn't speak English, only German, so communication was difficult), but they let me take pictures... maybe you know what these are?

the chickens have really cool TAILS, that are nearly as big as their bodies, and stand BOLT upright, lol!

they also had three of these, no idea what they are:

a chicken plant is trying to get gov't import approval for some different breeds... and we want some Buff Cochins..., as soon as we can get them!

When we were living in Iowa we were next to a game farm and they mailed baby quail. I used to love going to the post office and hearing peep peep peep.. Too cute!

Your avatar is a chick? I have wondered for so long what your av was but I didn't want to ask. The last time I asked someone what their av was, they changed it!! Then, I felt bad.

I am going to google image a fizzled cochin now!

That doesn't sound right. There probably are more than one kind that have feathers sticking straight up from their heads I would guess. I got him from an aunt who raised lots of oriental chickens and such and that name does not ring a bell

Well, we're having a little disaster here. Two were dead when they arrived (that happens), but seven more died yesterday and two more today. We have ordered from McMurray Hatchery several times and have ALWAYS been very satisfied, so I have emailed them about this batch. Bob said they looked "poor" when they came. We'll see what their response is.
