Three of my clients in the Coachella Valley told me today that they experienced several quakes in the last few hours, but they were very small.

What worries me about them is the liquifaction potential for the Coachella Valley is huge. Heck, the entire valley is actually on a bed of 1,000' of sand, and so if we have a really big quake, everything (streets, houses, etc) will be gone,..., just absorbed into the sand.

The entire place is just built on fine beach-like sand.

Talk about worrisome...

I just added California to my list of stuff that I'm afraid of. Right between closed in spaces and big spiders.

Good grief! Jim and I were just looking at houses in Cali. I think I may have changed my mind. We were looking in the San Diego area, ocean side. I hear the weather is great near the ocean. I guess not if you are absorbed.

Sandy,

San Diego is in good shape. It is a good place to live.

Oceanside is a little seedy, as the folks that "service" the Grunts are out at all hours of the night downtown. The rest of the Oceanside is fine.

The Coachella Valley and Alameda are the dangerous liquefaction zones in CA.

Sandy,

San Diego area is great. They have been hit a little harder by the housing crisis so there might be some deals down there.

Nappy has a good friend that lives nearby to there so she might be able to add some insight.

Just know that right now we have June Gloom ging on. Sheesh I had to break out sweaters today. HOw bout you Vic, some June Gloom following the May Gray? You would think Cali would be sunny all the time but June is like the worst month.

Shelley,

The June gloom stuck around until about 7pm...and then we was the sun for a few minutes. This weekend is supposed to be very nice for us in So Cal (low 80's, clear skies, etc).

I hope that the forecast is correct. I have a ton of field work to do this weekend while my wife is teaching a class at the Getty.

My Father lived in San Diego, in the 70s. He loved it..

If I were to move to California, which I won't, It would be to San Diego, just on what my Father said about it.

When is the "Big One" supposed to hit?
