I collect yarn too. (think I already mentioned that)

In fact, I just received an addition to my stash. One of my online crochet friends just sent me 8 skeins of a discontinued yarn that I'm going to crochet a shawl out of. I'm super excited about that. I love it when people send me yarny goodness in the mail.

Now I have to figure out something to send back to her. Just not sure what to send her.

How hard is it to make a blanket out of yarn? I remember I used to crochet when I was pregnant with my 9 yr old. I don't know if I was making anything but a long strip of knitted yarn. I would love to know how hard it would be to crochet something, make blankets for my lil monsters! :)

and trunks .. I have 4 of them, and a cedar chest ... but these are those old travel trunks ... and they are all in my livingroom ... they are fun to get, but tough to get home when I have a little car ... gotta change that!

Okay, Von, this is weird. I'm a jr. Civil War buff myself, I just stimulated the economy with my very own copy of the Ken Burns series. I was at Gettysburg last year and I have to go back because the new museum should be opening any day now!

The weird part is, I'm a trunk junky too. I have a really cool one with a packing list still inside the lid, written in quill & ink with things like "corset ~ 2" and "hankerchiefs ~ 6" and "lacing hooks", etc. It's really fun to imagine where it may have been, whose it was, did she marry John Astor and change her life? Was she a war widow? Was she American? I love that junk!

Is saving everything I, my parents, and my grandparents ever owned the same as collecting something?

My mother actually "collected" things--match covers, coins, doilies, dogs (especially Scotties), postcards, shells, rocks...yikes. I mostly just "keep" things. Baby clothes, books, shoe boxes, photos, letters my mom and dad wrote each other in the 40's. I refer to these things as my daughter's inheritance.

Someday I'm going to have a really cool collection of something, when I decide what it is. I made the mistake of telling a couple of people I liked puffins, and I ended up with puffin salt shakers, puffin magnets, puffin dish towels. Erf.

Is a puffin like a penguin?? I should just google it.. like I do everything else I don't know ;) I don't know what I can give my sons for an inheritance.. my mother is giving me her jewelry..even tho I don't wear anything but a cross. Boys are different.. decisions decisions...they'll probably just want money! :)

It's not hard at all, depends on the intricasy (sp?) of the pattern.

If you just do a solid stitch like a half double crochet, or a double crochet back and forth until you think it's big enough, it's pretty easy.

I used to collect Precious Moments figurines--most of them have a cowboy/western theme..... They are all boxed up now and stored away... No where to display them.

I guess I collect Tony Stewart matchbox size cars... I've never bought one but I have MANY... I also have all of the Semi's w/trailers.

Oh my.. my mom has a curio cabinet filled with those little things. She used to get them monthly and special ones.. and even bought some for my sons which I think are in a cardboard box in the garage! They were cute.. but when I think of all the money she spent on those Precious Moments..she could of sent us all to school :)

Ponder....

Fine....

I have a Dalmatian collection. The nice music boxes, water globes, etc, are on display, while the carp like stuffed dogs are in boxes. Why? Cause someday when I have grandkids we can play with the stuff and then they can take one home and it will be my kid's problem to deal with.:D

(Holly...I have the dalmatian frame right here on my computer desk!)

I think this thread should be stickied and renamed as:

This Years Christmas Exchange Wish List! :D Just joshin'.

One poster mentioned something that I did have a collection of at one stage.

Some-one gave me the cutest ***** for a gift quite some time ago, and I commented on how sweet it was. WRONG thing to do!

Every birthday, every Christmas, every available excuse people bought me gifts of **** . I had them on every available shelf, coming out of every cupboard, lined up anywhere they'd fit.

Finally I yelled ENOUGH!

I kept the very first ***** I was given and threw the rest out. No-one will ever know what that **** was because I do not want to see another*** in my house! EVER!
