This is pretty scary - I know most of these places.

Crab Orchard - Suzy, that's funny. I don't think there's even a store in that town.

I've lived in K-town, Ypsi, and Marblehead (actually, Port Clinton).

It just occurred to me that no one even mentioned Schenectady, NY or Albuquerque, NM. Go figure! Or Ponchatoula, LA.

Try saying Ngaruawhahia. Nar-ah-waa-hee-a.

Opua. Oh-poo-ah

Mount Maunganui. Mount Maan-ga-new-ie

New Zealand has some great names.

Some places and names in New Mexico that tourists could not pronounce correctly.

Tijeras

Tajique

Chama

Abiqui

Vigil

Martinez

Taos

Acequia

I could go on. I was born in NM so I had the inside clue already. Tourists were easy to spot when they tried to use the Hooked on Phonics method of pronunciation.

Default Mouthful!

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch is a town in Wales.

My brother can actually pronounce this! (Retired Welsh and Portuguese Prof.)

It means; "St. Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio near the red cave."

Did you know that Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch is not the longest town name in the world? Thailand has a town whose name has 163 letters:

Krungthepmahanakornamornratanakosinmahintarayuttha yamahadilokphopnop- paratrajathaniburiromudomrajaniwesmahasatharnamorn phimarnavatarnsathit- sakkattiyavisanukamprasit.

I wonder how they teach their toddlers to memorize their home address in case they get lost?
