I had the very bestest of days today!

Last night I got a surprise phone call from a GF I went to school with. She and I have been really close friends for 43 years now.....yes I am that old!

During those 43 years there have been times when we've not seen each other for some years, but not once.... not ever, has it affected our friendship. Through good times and bad times, she and I have always been there for each other, ever since we were 13 years old.

In all those years we've laughed a lot but we've also cried as well. Every memory that we made, we made together. We were always there to hug each other when the going got tough, but we always shared the good times as well.

Today she came to visit.

It's about 5 years since the last time we got together but when I saw her, it seemed like yesterday. Now that we've moved back to my "home" state (where I was born & grew up), I have the opportunity to meet up with people who I've cared about for such a very long time.

There's nothing as special as a GF, but I have very few true girlfriends. Of those I have, some I've met and some I've yet to meet, but each and every one are all just as special to me!






Who else has a special GF or 3 in their lives? What special memories would you like to share?



And...............just so I don't get picked on for discrimination, all the guys are invited to add their special memories of their male friends as well.

You made me lonesome for my bestest friend from HS. I guess I need to pick up that phone and visit for a bit via the phone. She only lives about 90 minutes away but never seem to get over there.

I'm glad you had a great visit! Memories like that will never go away either.

I have a wonderful dear friend. Her name is sue and we have been best friends for about 44 years.

She lives 4 hours away from me but we still talk on the phone at least 3 x a week.

I go see her or she comes here at least every 3 months.

Even through all the moves that we both had we remained close.

We have never argued, never judged no matter what.

There is this saying and I don't know it word for word but this is Sue and I.

"A good friend would bail you out of jail. A best friend would be sitting right next to you" LOL That is Sue and I

I'm so glad you got to connect with your friend, Anne. Friends are so important. Sometimes a close friend understands you better than even your family does.

I hope you two will remain as close as you are today for ever and ever. It's truly a blessing.

Hi Anne~ How wonderful that you got to visit w/your GF. I can tell how happy your heart is, esp after the yr you have had.

I have alot of wonderful GF's and I have a different relationship w/each one of them. I know that we all have each other's back when in need.

I'm just waiting to win the Lottery, so I can visit a bud in Aussieville.

I have my bff from about 25 years ago. We've been thru so much together.
She lost a young child to cancer, I was in a terrribly abusive relationship.
She was pregnant with her second child when her daughter died. one
day after the funeral she had emergency surgery for an etopic pregnancy.

She has since adopted a child and is now going thru a nasty divorce.(there
is a point to all this, be patient). She really messed up and was caught
drunk and now has supervised visitation with her daughter. I am a
supervisor. Which means Ive spent alot of quality time with her and
her daughter recently. I feel like Ive been given this gift of time with
them so Im trying to embrace it rather than focus on how busy I am and
what a pita this is, ya know.

Im proud of how great she is doing. I keep reminding her that I will
turn her in if she doesnt. anyway, Im thankful I have her in my life
even though it is a struggle at times, does that make sense????

You're a good friend, Sox. Honestly, not too many people would take the time to do what you're doing. I hope your friends knows how fortunate she is.

You know what Kelly, I try to put myself in her position. I keep telling
her shes the perfect Oprah guest: Her soon to be x dh was molested by
a catholic priest from age 10 until they married at 20. it was devistating
.... then her daughter died and she lost her other baby..... Her dh struggled
with substance abuse and had an affair.... she herself has struggled with
alcohol and prescription drugs(she start taking them when her dd was ill).

I keep thinking if I lost a child the way she did, maybe Id be in the same
place. I like to think I wouldnt be but I dont know

So anyway, I gotta do this for her 7dd who is struggling now with all
thats going on with Mom and Dad....I bet you would too Kelly

Thanks, Anne, it's always good to reflect on the blessings of true friends!

My oldest friend, Sandi, and I cannot remember life without each other in it. We DO sometimes argue, we DO fix it because our bond is real, and we have survived like sisters for 42 years. We both know that when push comes to shove, the other one is right there. We will turn 46 later this year and she plans to move near wherever I land when I get my chance to move. She told me that, "We began life together, we've stayed friends through it all, and we should finish it together."

Every single one of my friends is the very best at a few areas of friendship, so I do not have a "best" friend. They're all perfect at what they do and what they add to my life.

I seem to have only held onto friends from college. I have 3 that are my greatest friends. We all got together last summer for the first time in 7 years, at least all 4 of us at one time. We had the best weekend! It really is like something I read out of a book. We went to Martha's Vineyard, where one of them lives, and within 1 hr of all of us getting there we were having wine, crying, laughing and crying some more. The stories, I'm telling you, we could make a movie out of it.

True friends are a blessing!
