Default Here we go again...Tornadoes!

They just sounded our tornado sirens, so I'm in my basement, hiding from the big scary windy stuff.

My mother, however, is insisting that the tornadoes wont hit her, so she's upstairs, sitting in her chair, watching the storm on tv...and kvetching about there not being anything on except for the weatherguy's. Oy vey!

It's really stressful when my mom gets all weird and thinks that tornadoes wont get her.

So far, the tornado, according to the weatherguy, is about 12 miles from us, so I'm not that worried yet, but this storm has dropped a couple of twisters already, and the storm is getting bigger, so I really hope we can get my mom to come downstairs eventually. Now I know where my nieces get their oppositionally defiant disorder from.

Do check it when the weather has cleared, Erin. We learned this past March just how frightening tornadoes can be. Stay safe.

All the best,
Chris

We're still in a warning, I dont think it's close to me right now, but there are more storms heading my way right now.

They just said on the news that a Boys Scout camp north of Omaha, in Little Sioux, Iowa was hit. All Omaha hospitals are in emergency alert, and they're about to be receiving "casualties" from the Boys Scout camp. Something like 30 - 40 people, including some fatalities.

Not sure if all the injuries/deaths were Boys Scouts, but I hope the report about the deaths is wrong.

I'm just waiting for my dad's job to call him in. He works at one of the hospitals/trauma centers here in town.

It's getting a bit scary here, but at least we got my mom into the basement now.

My dad just told me dinner is ready. I'm scared to go upstairs to eat.

DON'T!!! Remember what happened here in March when we had those awful tornadoes and didn't know about it until we heard it on the news? I think they are still undergoing construction in downtown Atlanta.

Wow Erin, I'd be a nervous too! Run up, grab your dinner and eat it in the basement. Keep us posted.

My sister works for the Boy Scouts here in New York, and I called her and told her what you said about the camp north of Omaha. I hope there weren't a lot of fatalities.

Keep safe!

They just confirmed four fatalities at the Boys Scout camp.

One news station is actually broadcasting what Troops had fatalities. (the kids are all from Council Bluffs, Iowa) They're not broadcasting the names, but they're giving out way too much information right now in my opinion. I'm sure there are parents that dont know yet.

There was five inch diameter hail in Central Omaha a little while ago (baseball sized) and there have been reports of grapefruit sized in other areas.

We have had so much rain over the past couple of weeks, that I'm pretty sure Iowa is going to become Lake Iowa pretty soon, and parts of Omaha and the surrounding area will also be underwater.

It was raining so hard here at my house, I couldnt see the end of my yard. The lightning has been really freaky too.

We were in a drought.

I'm a lot disturbed about those kids at the Boys Scout camp. I really hope that it's not as bad as they say it was.

Now one of the news channels is saying there could be more fatalities at the Scout camp.

No damage at my house that I know of.

My neighbor across the street tho, has a ton of water damage. Her basement has been flooding since this couple weeks long round of storms started. She had her basement waterproofed yesterday.

Well, it might be waterproofed, but somehow they broke her sump pump yesterday when they waterproofed. Her basement was filling with water all evening. My aunt, who lives next door to her, is over there bailing water, and they got someone out there to replace the sump pump.

The neighbor has been having so many problems, and the guy on the other side of her has been having flooding too. Their problems started last year when we had 7 inches of rain in early May.

The guy finally went out and bought carpet tiles, so that if the basement started to fill up, he could just pick up the tiles and put them in the driveway to dry off in the sun. He had his basement waterproofed today. I hope the cement had time to dry. But, judging from what I saw thru his front door windows, I doubt it. Looks like they might have had water problems too.

I think there's about to be some lawsuits in our neighborhood against the builder. He FUBAR-ed things when they didnt grade the backyards of the houses across the street correctly. (houses at the bottom of the hill, big steep hill that makes the water run down to the backs of the houses and lets water into the basements.

Oh, the kids in the Boys Scout camp that were injured/killed. They didnt have any storm shelters to get to, and some of them were on a hike that was possibly 5 miles from the camp. One of the local stations said there could be MORE than 4 kids killed. (I hope not!) and a bunch of the kids are seriously injured. They mentioned spinal injuries and severe head injuries.

The local police in the area had to call in the Iowa National Guard and a couple of counties worth of road crews to come and cut their way thru downed trees to get up to the camp. Took them awhile to get to the kids. They think they've found them all now.

Just scary. When I was 13, my Camp Fire Girl group was at a camp (a girls scout camp, could have been the same one that got hit tonight, they shared the boys scouts place then) and we got caught in a storm on the last day. Were on an island in a lake when a storm hit. We decided to take the bridge (wire, 15 feet above a creek) back to the shore to get to the cars. Everyone got soaked, and freaked out!)
