Anybody know anything about the status of floodwaters in Nauvoo, Illinois or Montrose, Iowa?
Mom lived in Nauvoo and DH and I lived in Montrose which are both small towns with no local papers to get the news. My home town is Fort Madison, Iowa and we get the news from there but haven't heard about Montrose or Nauvoo. They said 1993 was a 500 year flood and this one is worse. |
Hey Janie~ I've been through Ft Madison tons of times, as DD used to teach school in Keokuk. I know Burlington and Keokuk have flooding, but will listen to our local news later to find out about the other locations.
Our poor lil river towns are getting soaked. We rode down towards our campground in our town and it's still closed and under water. What a mess. The news just makes me so sad to watch. |
I didn't read all the posts in the last day but Quincy Illinois is finally receeding. I was worried about the veterans home there. Rockford's river has crested and flooding the area. Sheesh, that river runs right through Rockford. I live about 1 hour south of Rockford but not close enough to have flooding.

Hi I keep calling my Aunt in Hannibal,Mo. she ok but it's as bad as our 1993
flood. She lived there all her live there all her life,92 and the strongest lady, I'm so proud to be her niece,if she could she would be packing a sand bag. Thanks for asking everyone..Hugs to all |
It's just terrible....all those people displaced by this. Reminds me of New Orleans.
Every time I see a news story about it and see people just standing by all their ruined belongings I just want to cry. And a lot of these people didn't have flood insurance. Either it was too expensive or they just didn't think they'd ever need it. All it takes it one time to make you realize that while most of us hate paying insurance premiums it sure is nice to have it when you need it. |
I saw on our news that the floods are picking up chemicals somehow (barrels that they never thought the water would reach) and contaminating the water. Anyone else hear about this?
I also heard it was moving throughout IL more, as from last night. My sister is on a lake about 45 ming north of Chicago . . . anyone know if it's hitting up that far? It looks very devastating on the news. Bad enough losing material items, but the sentimental photo albums, school reports, etc . . . that would be so sad!!! Cherie |
I heard that too Cherie and it is scary. I saw the news today and the houses are buried. Did anyone see the image of the poor little pigs on the rooftop? So sad. I don't know about north of Chicago but the Fox River is making things difficult for everyone. If you sister lives on the Fox River she may experience flooding. Check Google Earth and see if her lake connects to the Fox River Cherie. Let us know if you hear from her. We live near the Fox River but not close enough to be affected, yet. Our lake doesn't connect to any rivers because it's a man made lake.

Fox River is runs close to Cary, right?
She is in Barrington, the next area up from Palatine/Arlington Heights. It "looks" like that river drains into the Barrington Lake, but I thought that lake was man-made. Maybe I'd best give her a call, eh? Yeah, I saw the pigs too. Cherie |
West Fox River does run through Cary. The little streams look like they run through several towns. Yea, I'd call.
Well, I said Quincy was going down but looks like it's going back up. The Mississippi is expected to crest tomorrow. :-( |
