It looks like some type of house spider (the kind that doesn't spin a web). Google house spider and see if you can find a picture.

There are more than 30,000 spider species known to science. The identification of a spider is mostly very difficult and the use of a microscope is needed to compare the copulation organs with drawings in scientific books and articles. That's the reason why you won't find many identification keys on the internet at the moment.
http://www.arachnology.be/pages/Identification.html don't see your little critter here either: Are Spiders Dangerous? Believe it or not, almost all species are not harmful to people, but are actually beneficial because they catch and eat a lot of insects that can be pests. Spiders do not seek out, chase, or randomly attack people, nor do they carry grudges against people. If you leave them alone, they will leave you alone. http://bugguide.net/node/view/1954 good luck with your attempt to ID the spider.

You've sent me on a qwest, and unfortunately I've come up empty handed. But I did find out you were not the only one trying to find out what type of spider this was. I found a variety of thoughts, but nothing conclusive.
Best of luck.

I don't know about your insect, try here?
Pest Control!!! They take submissions from outside of Canada as well. Lots of crawlies to look at. I think I've been through the entire site, but I'm no expert. I was less fascinated by the spider than I was the metal object beside it. The heck is that thing? LOL

yeeeuuuuuuuuck!! I hope that is NOT in your house. It looks like it
is full of eggs. Good luck, I would at least try to let it outside.(I would secretly suck it up my vacuum and make my dh empty it.)

Well, it's not a widow or a brown recluse so it's not dangerous. Not cool to have in the house though.

Yup, me too! Being as afraid of spiders as I am, I doubt I would have had time to snap a photo before squashing it.
