This has nothing to do with my sisters surgery but has to do with her. Years ago she decided to donate her body to a med school to be a cadaver. My mother was just petrified that there would be no grave or anything and what people would be doing to her body. Now this surgery has brought all those bad feelings up. I went to the IU school of medicine website and read all about the cadaver program. It is very interesting. My Mom and sister finally had a long talk today and I think things are finally settling between them.

doydie,
i'm sorry about your sister's dx. i was just dx'd with an aggressive breast CA but it was non-invasive. i am just recovering from bilateral lumpectomies. just to let you know that tx today is excellent. i start radiation soon but the surgery went well and my recovery is going well too. i'll send prayers to your sister for her full recovery and to you that the mammogram will be fine. i know what you are going thru.

I had my repeat mammogram today. They do things different now than several years ago when I had to have a repeat. They have this little wand looking like thing that they hook up to the machine then they line it up over the suspicious area and just squash with that little thing. So the area on the left breast was just a glitch on the film. But they needed to explore the right one some more so they sent me over for an ultrasound. So I have two cute little cysts. They are almost together as one and kind of looked like a rubber ducky or a whale. So I just told the US tech that I would give it a name and welcome it to the family . So after one of my favorite characters on NCIS I have named my cyst Ducky. I hope Ducky never grows and gets uncomfortable. So I will see him a year from now.

Doydie,
My cousin and my best friends sister have both gone through breast cancer and they are doing very well now. It is rough going through chemo but they have won the fight. My cousin has beat breast cancer twice now. I am praying that your sister will beat it also.

Surgery is over, took about 4 hours then she was in recovery for about 3 hours so it went longer than we thought. But so far everything is OK. Pathologist will have to look at everything to see where she stands as far as lymph node involvement and prognosis. She has the temporary breast implants/tissue expanders in now and will have to have another surgery with general anesthetic to remove those and put the real implants in.
I can't believe they are planning on sending her home tomorrow. Her husband says his hours are flexible enough that he can stay with her for a couple of days. I just can't do it. She and I pretty well split up all of my Moms chores. She does the laundry and I do the grocery shopping and we split op the doctors appointments. She doesn't have a lot of laundry or grocery needs since the retirment complex does all linens and all meals are provided but she still has basic needs and she doesn't like to get up early enough to get dressed for breakfast. But I will be her everything for I know a month. I'm already tired. |

I haven't written much lately about her surgery. She is about one month since surgery now. We had been pretty worried about it. she jsut wasn't healing as far as energy, swelling, etc. She was breahtless but she said that comes with her fibromyalgia. Her pathology report was bad, 3 out of 6 lymph nodes were involved with one of them very involved. So they did a PET scan to see if the cancer had spread. With her being so breathless I was so afraid of it already being in her lungs. i was afraid that I wouldn't even have her at Christmas. But the PET scan was normal!!!!!!!!!!! No hot spots! No one understands. they say with the very aggressive cancer type that she has why was the scan normal. they just don't get what God had to do with it. It was just such a God thing, no other way to describe it.
But she was still having a lot of drainaige tubes and the last one fell out while she was sleeping last night. So she had to go back to surgery tonight to have it replaced. So he explored while he was in ther. Her implnat on the cnacer side ws indfected so they had to comletely romove it and it can't be reoplaced for 3 months. But hopefully that was what was keeping her from recoveing. |
