They just downgraded the magnitude...to a 5.4. That's a good thing, not as bad as what they thought.

It lasted a good 15-20 seconds and then it took 2 more minutes or so the the building to stop moving on the rollers. It began and then it kept ging and got progressively stronger. I am 2 miles to the ocean and it just felt like these rolling waves and some sudden jerks heading west.

My biggest quake so far.

I hope it was not the precursor to the big one

Fortunately it was not a foreshock. If it was, then things would be pretty bad. But, since there are swarms of smaller ones hitting the same area, we can conclude with some certainty that the 5.4 was the largest...but in So Cal, you never know.

Since I live near March AFB, I am used to the sound of C-17's, KC-135's and F-16's flying over the house. You can hear them from miles away...and they do sound like an earthquake on its way periodically.

This earthquake sounded like a frieght train and we were just waiting for it to reach us. It did last a while, but with very little damage in Riverside.

Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as they thought and definately that it's not a foreshock. Whew!

Hey Vic,

Right after it happend I was on the USGS site to see what the size was and before they had it posted they had a quake the size of a 3.0 something that preceded the 5.4.

That sounds like a classic foreshock, Shelley.

The moderate ones are actually the ones that worry me most, because before every big one that I have experienced, there was always a 4.0 or 5.0, then boom, the 6.5+ hits.

At least we don't have to worry about hurricanes.....so far.
