I had to bring DD16 to the ER again for severe vertigo. I called her dr for a follow up appointment and he said that he believes there is something else going on and it is beyond his knowledge and she needs to see a neurologist.
She has severe vertigo, headaches, neck pain, blurred vision, nystagmus, and hand tremors. Additionally, she intermittently gets back pain and hip/thigh pain. As MSers, we all have it in the back of our mind. However, I have to look at other possibilities. So I thought I would ask you smart NT people for your thoughts. I know that some migraines can cause all of these symptoms with the exception of back pain and hip/thigh pain. So migraines is not out of the question. The tremors come and go though and don't always happen with the headaches. The vertigo, this time, happened prior to the headaches. All ideas, comments, etc. are welcomed and appreciated. |

I used to get severe bouts of vertigo when I was a teenager/young adult too, Trish. We know how that ended up for me, but I hope it's just something that can be treated and fixed. Has she ever seen an ENT (Ear/ Nose/Throat)?

Sending to you and your daughter that this is nothing very serious and can be fixed. I suffered from migraines as a teenager into my adult years and it was hormones for me. I had a hysterectomy and was fine around my early 30's.
I know it's hard being a mother and loved one. Try not to worry too much.

I never realized how debilitating vertigo can be. You become completely immobilized. I am sorry you had to go through that. Quote:
I too, naturally, hope it is something simple and treatable. |

My 27ish yo niece just went through something similar, but hers was definitely related to migraines. She also had the severe vertigo and she'd get numbness alternating with pain in her right arm and face. She missed a week of work because of the vertigo.
I also keep thinking MS with her, it's hard not to. So many of her symptoms mirror what I went through when I was younger. Hopefully this will something minor for you daughter. If it is migraines, maybe they'll give her one of those preventative meds to take when she feels one coming on? That's what they did for my niece. Try not to worry too much Sweetie.

Awww so sorry for DD16. I think that migraines can be a pecursor to MS, as was in mine and
DD's case, but sometimes it's just a Migraine problem. Although, either way sucks, I hope your DD is the latter and can be cured.

Trish you know you and your DD are deep in Debies and my prayers
Curious have they done blood work ups on her, anemic? I know deb some serious issues with this and it did give her a hard time with a few of your DD SX's, just a thought hang in there mom

Thanks, Frank. Not yet. I do have that whole insurance issue going on as well. I do think that blood work needs to be done on her to rule out any metabolic, hormonal, etc. issues. I never though of anemia but will keep that in mind especially since she hates red meat and getting her to eat it is a challenge. Even though she eats a lot of other foods high in iron, anemia could certainly be an issue. (Although, she is a high energy girl and doesn't fatigue easily except when she is having one of these "spells.")
