My strategy for years has been disposable antibacterial wipes. Aside from all I've listed above, I will also want my scooter or walker handles cleaned because they must be used to exit the voting booth.

So, once I've escaped the veritable petri dish of germs, I do a full and thorough sanitization of all my own surfaces and carry on.

Also, many others seem to carry the little bottles of hand-sanitizer in purse or pack for the same reasons.

Incidentally, it is widely reported that most computer keyboards have more types and quantity of bacteria than the average public toilet.

Brunch, anyone?

That is a really good idea, Cindy. I'm going to start doing that, too. I never thought about the actual sink area being dirty.

I do keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in the car - and make my boys keep one, too. Whether they use it or not I don't know - but I've done all I can do to make them aware. I do know Matt keeps it in his police car - some of the things he has to touch are pretty dirty....

I use the sanitizer especially after pumping gas....those gas pumps are so filthy. I do a double dose of hand sanitizer after I use one of those things.

OK - I've added moist towelettes to my list of things I need to get....and more hand sanitizer.

I'm astounded at how many people plop. My mom taught me never to sit on a public toilet.

I admit that I spray all over the seat--I can't help it, that's just the way it comes out. (And I often end up spraying the back of my pants, legs, and shoes too!)

But I always wipe it up. The next person does get my germs (sorry) but at least they don't have to look at them.

And I'm SURE that mine are FAR from the only germs on there.

Another place to use the antibacterial wipes is the grocery cart. The handle of the grocery cart is filthy. I hate to see babies sitting there with their mouth on the handle. Makes me gag. And I cannot believe any Mom would allow that. They make covers for the shopping cart if you have a baby that's going to sit there. I know you cannot protect against everything but some things are so easily remedied.....

I hover, never sit unless we're talking about that one time I was drunk and worshipped that nasty toilet in that nasty bar. Shhhhh, we don't talk about that much.

If needed I pile huge amounts of toilet paper and work fast to get done. You never know about those toilets, ever. I could tell you a story about getting more than a germ from a public toilet but my mom would disown me. Nuff said.

Do you all remember those old faucets that are still here that you have to push down and it never gives you enough water? lol One only has to visit an old school, VA hospital or rest stop to know what I mean. Hate those and I carry antibacterial soap and wipes because of that. My fav faucets are the sensor ones, can't go wrong with those.

My kids did that and always when I looked away. It is nasty but my kids were Ok even though I was ill about it. I was in my local grocery store the other day and they offer wipes as you walk in for the carts. I thought that was pretty cool.

I do think that sometimes we go overboard about germs though. My kids played in dirt and rolled with the best and survived. I did too. Sometimes I think over use of antibacterial things can cause problems in that we can't gain resistance from the germs. I could be wrong but you never know.

BUT, I will never succumb to the idea that a toilet, hot tub or grocery cart have good germs. lol

I now return you back to the porcelain goddess.

I can't hover anymore . I pee quite often so avoiding public restrooms is impossible . I just got the coolest things that CayoKay recommended on another thead . They're called P-Mate. Google it. Some of you may be freaked by them but desperate times call for desperate measures . They really do work!

I googled it. I would most likely fall into the toity, whilst trying to stand still on two weak legs, holding said pee-canal in place..

They need a handicap version.
