I've been a huge fan of music my entire life. I listened to very varied music (metal, 80's pop, folk... you get the idea).

During my diagnosis for MS, I happened to be introduced to 1 song in particular that, listening to the lyrics, brought me to tears every time I heard it. I'm not posting it because it caused me to cry in a negative way. It was such a beautiful song with incredible lyrics. I was simply blown away.

Here's the only decent video I was able to find on Youtube (and it's not really a video at that). I guess the band does not have a video for this particular song.

I'd love to hear songs from those of you who had songs arrive to you in certain points of your life that today are still very emotional for you, or important.

I have quite a few favorites (large music collection - from classical to heavy metal), but these have been the ones I've been listening to a lot lately.

This doesnt have anything to do with my MS, but one of my favorite songs in the world is "What a Wonderful World", sung by Louis Armstrong.

It had always been one of my favorite songs, but 7yrs ago this month, I was working in a WalMart when the September 11th attacks happened.

A few days after the attacks, I was sitting in the front of the store I worked at, crocheting pins out of yarn (we'd run out of red, white, and blue ribbon, and anything patriotic looking just hours after the attacks, so yarn was all I had to work with)

We were selling the pins for 25 cents apiece...donations to the Red Cross. I was talking to a couple of people who'd stopped to get some pins. A man came in, picked up a pin and handed me a $100 bill. I was going to count out his change (people had been buying a LOT of those pins) and he told me to keep the $100.

A few minutes later, the song "What a Wonderful World" started to play, and for some reason, a bunch of people in a row came up and each got a pin, and left a large bill as a donation ($10s, $20s, I think there was a $50...but no more $100s) I dont know if these were people who'd seen the guy donate the $100, but I was just a bit surprised that all of a sudden a lot of people were suddenly donating large amounts of money.

Ever since then, that's probably been my most favorite song.

I sat there all weekend, crocheting those pins, taught a couple of other people how to make them for when I went on break. I went thru several skeins of yarn. (didnt keep track, but I probably made more than several hundred pins...had to stop when I ran out of safety pins)

Raised several thousand dollars for the Red Cross and Walmart matched the donations. I think the final donation after WM matched it was close to, or just over $4000.


I have other favorite songs and musicians, but I think Louis Armstrong's version of "What a Wonderful World" is always going to be my favorite song.

wow cool as I was reading your post Erin, the song was playing in my head, I grew up playing the drums trumpet and a few other instruments woodwinds and other brass, Louie was my idle, that song is a really wonderful song (you can find this one on limewire, Louie does a version of St. James Infirmary, from either 1923 or 28, wow and thats an understatement)

"Can I sleep in your arms tonight lady" by willie nelson, when I first met my wife Deborah, I sang that to her and put tears in her eyes and got cheers from others near by, it was at the airport, my other two songs for my love are "you were wonderful tonight" by eric clapton, I could slow dance till I died to that song, and george strait's " I cross my heart"

now when winter gets me down, "California Dreaming " by the mamas and papas, it lifts my spirits,

Yeah music moves me, the genre I listen to is such a wide range of music the clash to glenn miller from flatt and scruggs to david bowie, from beatles to black sabbath, thats why I always dread the whats your fav era of music question ..... ummm all of them

even wrote this a couple weeks ago on here about rock and roll

rock around the clock set us on fire
opening a whole new youths desire
rock and roll was a new song
as we were told it did not belong
it was an escape, a safe haven
then there was roll over Beethoven
lets not forget good golly miss molly

I dont like the question of what my favorite era of music is...since I have favorites from a lot of different eras. I really cant pick an era. I even like music from the turn of the century. (1900's, not the 2000's)

My current preference is swing music. Stuff from the 40s. (btw, I'm only 39yrs old, so that music was waaaay before my time)

I also love American Indian music. (both traditional stuff and the modern music) Douglas Spotted Eagle is my favorite American Indian musician right now.

I love Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and I even like Elvis.

I had a huge fascination with the Monkees when they had the big reunion tours in the mid-80s.

I grew up listening to Styx music.

I even like classical music. (love Bach, and Chopin)

About the only music I cant stand is polka...and the song "Micky" by Toni Basil. (hate that song!!)

I agree Erin I too like any and everything brahms is my fav classical, to ragtime by scott joplin and gospel song, i enjoy those, I agree about Micky

I always found it kind of ironic the first video on mtv was video killed the radio star...
