I thought it would be safer there than on a trailer in my backyard exposed to wind and flying debris. Guess I was wrong... Its a real bummer because it was my dad's boat and one of the best memories I have was fishing with him in it the morning of the day he died. |

Oh man, I am so sorry. Just remember that it wasn't the boat that made that memory, it was what you did and who it was with. It's so hard but just wanted you to know I care. Maybe your boat will be saved somehow. The video shows a couple of boats.

Those are the boats stored outside. Our boat was inside the large metal building that is on fire. Video that I saw elsewhere showed the corner of the building buckling and smoke and flames pouring out from inside. One station said it was a transformer explosion on the corner of the building.

Awww, that's too bad, Batman. Wish you could have hopped on your Batbike and used your superpowers to save the day.
You'll always have those treasured memories of you and your dear Dad. I hope you can take sufficient comfort in that.

Ugh....I'm so sorry. I saw this on the news and wondered what would have started the fire.
You've still got your memories. Nothing can ever take that away from you. I know the boat had sentimental value to you. I'm so sorry this had to happen. Are you and your family safe? Where are you staying? I certainly hope you manage to escape serious damage but this storm looks massive. I just pray everyone evacuated as advised. You're in my prayers...

Oh, man, what a bite.
It's such a sad thing. I'm really sorry that you lost such a special one, man.

Thanks y'all. Yeah, we have insurance on it, but I actually hope the boat storage place's insurance will cover it since it was their fire.
One of the main reasons I have it stored there is that my dad's truck was the only truck we had that would pull it safely and it was a gas guzzler. We sold his truck, so I would have had to try to pull it with my truck. If I would have wanted to go get it, I would have had to pull it with an undersized truck on several freeways being used as evacuation routes by thousands of people trying to escape the storm. If the truck would have broken down or heaven forbid ended up in a wreck, it would have been an impediment to thousands of people trying to evacuate. Quite frankly, their lives are more important than my boat, so I stayed put. We are on the west side of Houston and are only expecting about 75-80 mph sustained winds and about 90-100 mph gusts. We have the yard and patio all secured and are just waiting for it to get here now. |
