Default How was your day today?

I was wondering how everyone spent their day!

Today was a lovely spring day here in Oz Land, and the beginning of Summer Time. The sun was shining when I got up around 7am and continued throughout the day! YAY! Summer is on it's way.

Our clocks change over at 2am tonight and stay that way until the end of March next year. It's called Eastern Standard Time here, or EST for short.

There was a fete at the junior school school just down the road from our house today, so DH & I went for a look this morning.

There were helicopter rides, games, chocolate wheels, and lots of food and drink stands. They even had a sausage sizzle which always gets my DH.

I don't understand how they can allow wines at a junior school fete, but they were there too.....and beers, but I think they were only prizes in some of the raffles.

The school mums and grandmas did themselves proud with the cakes and cookies, but why do they always price them out of the range of mere pensioners like DH and I? He'd have loved to buy some cupcakes....but at $6 for 4 cupcakes, we thought it was a tad too exy.

I love books and most of my book collections have come from places like yard sales and fetes. This school had novels, but at $2 or $5 per book, I certainly didn't buy any. I'm used to buying used books.... 5 for $2 ... or 50 cents each. Don't these people know that people will spend that and more if they just drop their prices a little?

We didn't buy a lot, but I did get some tomato plants for the garden and some herbs to plant.

What I wanted... but wasn't there, was mint. I asked DH if he could ask our neighbour for a root off their mint to get me started, but DH in his wisdom bought me a small bunch of fresh mint at the store instead! No roots on it mind you.....just fresh mint!

OK.. the fresh mint probably wasn't a complete disaster as I could dry the leaves, and put the stems in water until they made roots.... and then plant them after that.

I took all the leaves off the mint and put them in the microwave to dry..... as I usually did, and I put the stems in water to sprout roots.

When the micro-wave caught fire and sent a burnt electric aroma through the house, I decided that maybe we wouldn't be having that mint sauce after all!

He had the cheek to tell the neighbour about the micro-wave dying and do you know the first thing they did? They dug me out a huge piece of their own mint plant with lots of roots attached for me to plant!

Don't ya just hate that?

I don't think DH will live this down as our neighbour has a wonderful SOH and is already teasing DH.

What did you do today?

Surely you must have had a better day than I did!

PS....Does anyone have a microwave they want to give away....with free postage to Oz Land of course!

I vacuumed like nuts after finding the world's biggest earwig weaving along my carpet near my entry door (and I'm a neat freak as it is, so you can imagine how ugly I was to see this thing!).

Then I slept a lot, and messed up my sleep schedule by doing a 6-9pm nap

My morning is just getting started. My youngest was up early, 5:30am, as usual, lol. Yesterday was a busy and good day overall. Friday's are now mother/daughter days. And retail therapy days And last night the Red Sox won! YAY!

It looks like a chilly Fall day here. The leaves are soooo beautiful this year, lots of bright reds and oranges. I think that's a sign of health for the trees, meaning we had a wet summer, but the foliage benefitted. I really need to go charge my camera batteries....think I'll share some New England Foliage with the board

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I'm sorry that the days are getting cooler where you live, but I'd be lying if I said I was sorry about that. Your cooler days mean that our days are starting to warm up here, where I live.

Northern Australia is already having hot days and warm nights, but because I live in Tasmania ..... that tiny heart shaped island at the bottom of Australian on the map.... we have to wait a little longer for the warm weather to arrive, than other states do!

Tasmania is lower on the world map than all the other Aussie states, (and lots of other countries), so it's always colder here than the rest of Australia. If you check out the map....then the next stop's Antartica!

Tonight our clocks go forward for summer time, and that's always an exciting because it means that summer is not far away.

PLEASE NOTE: in big dark letters:

There's always room at my house should anyone decide to come look at Australia!

All you have to do is let me know!

We change our clocks November 2nd...this is when daylight savings time ends for us.

I love the winter and cooler weather. It is definitely getting cooler here, especially at night. But the afternoons are still warm. It will be at least December before we have any really noticeably colder weather.

I can remember Halloween's where we'd be sweating underneath our costumes!!

I have nothing in particular planned for today. Housework always needs to be done.....

I wish I had a microwave for you, Anne! How scary that yours caught fire!

What's everyone else got going for today?

Anne, we here on the east coast of the US are on Eastern Standard Time, EST. But, as Kelly said we are heading to Daylight savings time in another month.

and as Gladys said it looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here in New England, sun is shining bright but the temp is a little chilly this morning - I have 44 degrees! brrrrrrr

David wants to put some wood in (and has informed me that I am not helping). So that means I will be puttering around. Tomorrow we go to my parents to do the same thing.

I love fall, I will try to take some pics and post them. This is my favorite time of the year! The leaves are just so beautiful!

Have a great day and thanks for starting this thread Koala!

Well, Koala, since you asked...

I drove part of a church youth group (children ages 3-12) to the miniature golf course. And it was CLOSED!!! So they ate their snacks and played on the monkey bars for a bit.

Then I remembered I had a stack of free bowling coupons (from when I bought my bicycle 3 years ago). So we went bowling! I found my old ball, now with a chunk missing, and had to rent shoes to wear with NO socks. Ick!

But I bowled for the first time in about 4 years. Didn't even break a hundred, bleah.

The kids had a great (and very noisy) time. I wore pink earplugs. Did I mention it was noisy?

Hmmm, maybe I'll see if I can post some pics. Good kids. Fun day. Paying for it today with sore muscles!!!

Thanks, Koala, for the offer of a room. I'm always keeping my eyes open for cheap tickets to that country above your little heart-shaped island. Glad spring has found you!

I was going to paint the foundation of the house today, but it is raining. Doesn't rain much here in the 2nd driest state in the Union. Pfffft.

LOL! Anne, certainly not as exciting as yours! Today is Saturday and I am taking a day off so I will back up a day..

Friday started off with my annual Mammogram. They are so much fun! Turned out that the nurse doing my exam has MS so we had a very nice visit. It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month so they had us carry our belongings around in Pink Bags! It was quite cute...right...

Then it was off to my new "job." Week 2 of being there all the time, but the end of Week 1 being open. Business is starting to pick up but I am finding that my partner is having a difficult time transitioning from the 'strip mall' to the downtown location. It's the keeping the "clutter" out of the shop that is the battle!

The hotel employees love us! We've sold several bouquets of flowers to them already and worked up a package deal for the restaurant/hotel for flowers.

Then I came home and hit the sack! I've been doing that all week!

One exciting thing this week - Monday my truck went into the shop for a front end alignment and new tires! Wow! It drives so much nicer now! It doesn't wander all over the road anymore!! Shelley would be so happy!! Oh yeah...we had a rental car...never mind!

Today, it is raining! Yeah!!!!!! Since we only get about 11 inches of rain a year and we are about 3 inches short of our annual rainful, the rain is most welcome!

I'm doing fine today, just as long as I avoid hearing what the final score of the Michigan-Illinois game was (I don't even know if it's over - I'm just pessimistic).

It's 81 (F) here right now (5:30 pm). Low tonight a chilly mid 60's.

My day was spent in the warm beautiful morning sunshine which quickly turned cold and windy, walking up and down my long street, standing in the driveways of people I barely know, while my DD asked people in her sweet, cute little voice "would you like to buy a box of Girl Scout cookies?".
