Blush I Have The Plague!

Seriously.....for those of you who have been following I recently moved into a new home that had a serious flea infestation problem....now that we have gotten that to a manageable level, Olivia and I have headlice!!!! I have noticed this past week alot of head scratching, and I have been checking well tonight I found the proof! NITS! AGHHHHHHHHH! That child has curly hair down to her butt! So far my son....who hibernates in his room is good, I however have headlice too! And I just hugged a coworker yesterday!!!!! My boss however thinks it is hysterical and cannot stop with the jokes, wait till I tell her I sat on her sofa today! Anywhoo not sure whther to go the RID route or cover our heads in mayo, either way no sleep for the itchy!

Eeek!

I saw a deal on TV several months ago. Heat kills headlice.

Only a regular hairdryer isn't hot enough (they said).

I'd try it anyway, but it takes 30 minutes to get them to stay dead.

Good luck!

Renee i am sorry, we went through that years ago b4 i met up with deb the ones kids school had it they in turn gave to their older siblings and they spread it through the other schools, got pretty nasty they closed down all the schools for a few days and asked all parents to treat for it to be safe. hopefully the mayo works, if you both go that route you are going to treat your son too? might as well just to be safe

dont forget to wash all the sheets and blankets ,,, and get the rid spray for furniture ... i think i would treat your sons head too if his hair is an inch or longer just to be sure ... if he has even a tiny amount and you miss it ..you will have reinfested the lice in your house again ... also... you might want to let your daughters teacher know as he/she may want to let other parents know ... just a thought

My daughter had a friend, and her mom would never treat her properly. I don't know how many times I regretted having that kid stay over night, until I banned her completely!!

Mayo or conditioner will suffocate the adults, but it does not kill the nits, and there may be hundreds of nits by now. If so, you need to start a rounine of washing her hair, and while it is wet, parting it every 1/2 in or so you can pick out every single white spot on the hair shaft. This can take up to an hour each day, over a period of about a week. I would look every week after that too though, for at least a month.

I never get them, I guess because I use hair products and hair dryer. They don't seem to like those, so even if my daughter got them, they'd never pass to her older sister or I.

I would also invest in a nit comb, and have your daughter use it to comb her hair each time, then rinse it under the sink after each stroke. This might be the best way for you to get rid of them.

The chemicals they use in that shampoo is very strong, and can be dangerous (NEVER use if pregnant). I wouldn't use that more then once, if the mayo or conditioner doesn't suffocate the adults.

Sorry to hear another pest has turned up. First it was fleas, and now this.

I agree with the others' advice.

Get some flea spray, squirt it onto a kleenex and then stick the kleenex into your vacuum cleaner bag. (dont suck it up with the hose, take the bag off the vacuum and push the kleenex inside the bag)

When you vacuum, the nasty critters will get sucked into the vacuum (hopefully) and the bug spray on the kleenex will hopefully kill them.

Vacuum your beds too. Take all the blankets off and then use your upholstery attachments to vacuum the bed. Do the same to all the furniture too.

Hmmmm, not sure I'd want to spread all that bug juice around the room while I vacuumed. Might be worse than the critters!

Ok, then vacuum without the bug sprayed-kleenex in the vacuum.

Once you're done vacuuming, put the bag into a ziploc bag that's large enough to hold it. Then put the bag into the freezer to kill the fleas so that you can reuse the bag later.
