First, I'm switching a lot of my cleaning products to homemade ones with vinegar as the main ingredient. Vinegar and water is great for cleaning linoleum and hardwood floors.
Second, we bought two Brita water filter pitchers to stop the need of buying bottled water. We got the 8-cup size so that I could lift them. The water is delicious! I can't believe how good it tastes!

We use vinegar and water to clean our pets cages. Every time I do, I always think why don't I use this for our house cleaning? I know I really should.
We have always bought bottled water (we have well water), but we buy a lot of gallon jugs so we don't use only the individual bottles. And then I recycle all of them. You are so right - the Brita water filter makes the water taste so good! |

We have a PUR filter on the kitchen faucet and it makes all the difference in the world in the taste of the water. I don't buy bottled water anymore, either. Here's a website for all natural cleaning and personal supplies. They're a little pricey but they last forever. I like them. http://seasidenaturalsonline.com/

Vinegar and newspapers work well for cleaning windows.
Baking soda and vinegar will unclog a drain and clean your garbage disposal. A paste of baking soda will remove stains in sinks, on counters, floors, etc. Household ammonia will work for just about all cleaning on hard surfaces. Bleach and water mixed at a 1 part bleach to 10 parts water will disinfect everything. Check whatever you are spraying with it for colorfastness first. Let it air dry. To make homemade laundry detergent, grate a bar of Fels Naptha soap. Mix in an airtight container with one cup each of Borax and Washing Soda. One tablespoon is enough for most loads, use two tablespoons for tough loads. Make sure to put it in the washer first to make sure it dissolves. You can scent it with any essential oil. I use lavender. Just a drop or two will do. Rub laundry stains with Fels Naptha soap before washing or dissolve some in a spray bottle with water and spray the stain before washing. You can wash dishes with regular Ivory Soap. Just soap the dishrag or sponge and use it like that. No additives and it rinses right off. There's loads of sites on the net that have recipes for green cleaning stuff! They are very inexpensive and non polluting. I have to admit I use some sort of dollar store shower mist type stuff. We have really hard water here and I hate cleaning the shower. This stuff keeps it clean! If I could find a recipe for that, I would make it! Good for you for being green!
