I was just watching an episode of Deadly Women on one of the Discovery channels. (Investigation Discovery)
They had a story towards the end of the show about a woman who murdered most of her adult sons, a grandchild and her husband so that she could collect the life insurance policies. The thing that I noticed about the show was that they didnt do any research on a medical condition they said this woman had. Her defense lawyer told a story that she'd been diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, and then he went on to say it was Lou Gerhig's disease. I had to Google to make sure, but Lou Gerhig's disease is ALS...and Myasthenia Gravis is something else. (muscle disease?) What I'm guessing is whoever interviewed the lawyer just went with what he said (which was wrong) and didnt bother to check the facts before filming the episode of Deadly Women. The lawyer and the narrator both said that Myasthenia Gravis is "always fatal". I checked, and according to Wikipedia, that most people have a normal life span with it. I'd hate to see an MG person who is newly diagnosed watch that episode and then start freaking out when the show gives inaccurate information like that. It's like that episode of Cold Case where they had a serial killer with MS who claimed that tremors were a sign that "the end was near" (or that it was the big sign that he was going to die soon) I have to wonder why these people cant be bothered to even just do a Google search to check their facts before filming the inaccurate crap they put out.

Because they're in the business of making money, not of educating the public. They mostly don't care, as long as they get good ratings.

Must be why people who don't know me give me that "oh my gosh you poor little thing how do you manage" look when they learn I have MS. They act like they're waiting for my arms to drop off or something......if I were mean-spirited I could probably have some fun with them but I don't. They can't help it that they're ignorant....or can they??

TV shows tend to do this more, House CSI and a few others, now if i was watching on discovery i would expect thorough journalistic integrity, not what was easier to report, it is annoying, if I did that with any of my college terms papers i would of gotten an F
