Awwww, Anne. I'm so sorry, but it seems you have one challenge after another.
I say: Get rid of Murphy and his Law!!! You need to adopt McDonald's Law: "You deserve a break today!" I hope Mr. KBear gets his sight back right away. So scary! And I hope that you are able to get more help for you and him at home. I pray that you two and lil William can spend some time together during the Christmas holidays. What's your cockatiel's name? Hugs to you both, dear Anne.

Thank you everyone for your support and your very kind words. I really do appreciate them all.
DH is doing well in some ways, and not so well in others. Knee wise....he seems to be coming along well and is walking everywhere on crutches..... but......there have been several complications with his surgery, and the latest one is the one that really had us worried, and that is that hubby can't see! Since the knee surgery he's had both blurred vision and double vision, and that's been a big worry to both of us. Before the operation he was blind in one eye, so to lose the vision out of his only good eye has been rather devastating. I've taken him to our local doctor and she got him an urgent appointment with an eye specialist, and it seems that DH has had a small stoke and it's affecting his vision. This is his second stroke, so DH is rather apprehensive about the outcome especially seeing his father died from a stroke after having a similar operation. His younger sister had her first stroke at around 43 years old, and has recently had her third at 54 years of age.....(which was a biggie). Hopefully his vision will recover over time, but even so, it's been just another thing we have to worry about. In the meantime we have appointments made for him to see an eye physiotherapist in a bid to try an strenghten his eye muscles, and followup appointments with this eye doctor. Seems that Murphy's Law is still working against us.
