Default Regifting Stories - nightmares or sweet dreams!

A couple of years ago I received a gourmet box for Christmas from someone I have known for a very long time. It was an expensive gift...it contained several food items, two hand-painted coffee cups from a local artist, and a couple of other items. There was also a very nice card in the box from her brother I guess my friend didn't like the gift....

I never said a word and I have known her (and her brother) since high school!

At our big family party, we play a regifting bingo game at Christmas. We put all the unwanted gifts in a pile on the table and as a person wins a bingo they get to go take a gift. The next person can take one from the table or take the gift the other person got (just one retake per gift).

It was a blast last year so we're doing it again this time.

Wiz, we do something similar. Everyone brings a "gag" gift and then we play the game. It has to be under $5 and keep it "clean".

We got a wedding present 28 years ago that was so odd. It was from someone at DHs childhood church. She appeared to be a well off lady, but that gift was puzzling. It was a used wood cheese/cracker tray. Nice tile in the center, but she no longer had the glass dome or the cracker trays that fit in the grooves!

I often wonder if she was testing me... to see if I would actually write a thank you note. I did. A few weeks later my MIL called to tell me that the lady had purchased a complete place setting of our china.

I love regifted items if they are from someone who treasured the item. It makes me feel closer to them.

Now, Cheryl, I have to say that is the funniest story I have ever heard next to TKTC's. lmao

It's a true story! I have to admit, I was bored at work today and was reading some regifting horror stories online and some got me laughing! Mostly they were about gift exchange parties and some of them were hilarious. Especially the ones involving families where the gift being regifted was being regifted to its original owner!

I have another one...last Christmas the gift I gave to my SIL was a wall hanging that she made for me many years ago. It was something that she had made for me when she first acquired her loom. She told me at the time that if there ever came a time that the wall hanging was no longer something I had a place to display or it was just put in a drawer somewhere, she would like it back. In other words, she would rather hang it than me shoving it in a drawer. So, I gave it back to her. She was rather puzzled by it until PODH explained to her that she had asked for it back ...

Maybe we don't regift like YOU do!

I have a gift exchange story from work, but it really seriously sucked for me so I'm not retelling it. All I can say is I will NEVER participate in the work gift exchange thing again and I'm glad I'm missing the party this year to go to NYC with my friend.

This isn't a regifting story but it is an office gift exchange story...so I'll share it.

Years ago when we had an old fashioned GM at work we'd draw names and have a gift exchange during the pot luck lunch we had every year at Christmas time. We had a new salesperson (a lady) and she drew the GM's name. It being her first year and all I guess she thought it was a gag gift exchange....if I had been her I would have verified that little tidbit of information...especially if I had the GM's name to buy for!! Well, she didn't ask...she assumed....and when he opened his gift it was a big old pair of Sponge Bob Square Pants boxers!! Everyone else had been getting wallets and earrings and pen sets.....If I had been her I would have hightailed it out of there before he opened my gift (knowing what it was). The look on his face was priceless.

Not one to be a party pooper, FG so here it is. . . .LOL

My budget is so tight and we had to go to my nieces 3rd "Princess" birthday party. I was going to give her a painting that I did that she loves (it has yellow, pink, and brown). However, her room has lots of pictures in it. So we were trying to figure out what to give her.

Her mom had bought her a little eye shadow thing and put a mirror up for her at her height. We were over there for dinner the week of her party and she HAD to do everyone's eyes. We decided to give her a little make up bag and put little things in it (necklace, mirror, what ever was small and DDs didn't use or want). DD17 had a cute pink make up bag that she never used and we put it all in there.

At the party shortly after she opened her gifts, DD18, my Mom, and I were sitting around talking. DD18 grabbed the makeup bag and was asking where DD17 got it. My Mom chimes in and says, "I gave that to her." Jokingly, I told DD18 we were busted as we regifted a gift that grandma gave right in front of her. We all joked around.

DD17 came up and DD18 asked her where she got the make up bag from. Apparently, she got it from a friend. LOL

My Mom wouldn't have minded and she was joking right along with us.

~~~~~~
Now, my brother went to his work party last year and "won" some gifts. He kept the wrapped and put them under my brother and SIL's tree as they were "hosting" Christmas last year. Some how we ended up with one of the gifts, which when opened my brother thought it was hideous and just cracked up at this ceramic jar. Guess what we are regifting to my brother this year. . . .the regifted hideous jar. LOL
~~~~~
We pick names in our family and we got my youngest brother and his family. Years ago, he made me a wooden picture that he "made" (I am sure my dad helped him quite a bit). I am regifting that gift back to him this year.
