Somebody gave me a jar of bruschetta, and I'm such a hillbilly, I don't know what to do with it. Put it on bread? What kind of bread? Warm up the bread? Dunk it? Somebody with some class tell me what to do with it.
Thank yew.

LOL You're not a hillbilly! Bruschetta literally means toasted bread - so they can't really bottle that.
Take some good hearty bread (french or ciabatta or sumthin'), slice it and grill or toast it, rub garlic on it and a drizzle of olive oil and top with whatever is in the jar. If the stuff in the jar has a lot of oil in it, you probably don't want to also drizzle oil on the bread. yum

See? (Or si), I not only didn't know what to do with it, I didn't even know how to read the label!! It says "Bruschetta" then under it, "tomato topping". Now I know what to do with it. And I think I will. Thank you!

Watch out for the bread ties. They sometimes seem to think they belong in the topping too. FG is particularly fond of it that way.

Being married to an Italian, it's great on focaccia or garlic bread.

OK, I'm not letting go of this. I'd rather be stupid here on friendly turf than face-to-face with the lady who's going to ask, "How was the bruschetta topping?"
Hey, when I was growing up...well, never mind. Different thread. ANYway, let's see if I've got this right. Toast the bread, brush on olive oil, rub with garlic, top with tomato stuff. It sounds from my google search as though you do not heat up the tomato stuff, is that right? So...you eat it with a fork, right? Or is it finger food? Some of the recipes said to top with mozzarella, so then I would suppose the tomato stuff should be hot. Or soon would be. ??? I wish she had given me a jar of chocolate syrup, I would have known what to do with that. (drink it with a straw)

No, you don't need to heat up the topping room temp is fine. Use your fingers if you want - who cares? If you put olive oil and garlic on the bread first it will be a bit softer, if you do it after toasting the bread it will be a bit crunchier - do what you prefer.
If the lady had given you chocolate syrup we wouldn't have anything to talk about. And, I wouldn't know what to take to a get together this weekend - now I know I'm taking brushette - thanks.

I know you're just all on tenterhooks wondering how this worked out (and yes, it's "tenter" not "tender").
Who says you can't teach an old hillbilly dog new tricks? I decided to put the olive oil in a big frying pan, and toasted the slices of Italian bread until it was golden brown. I don't have any fresh garlic, so settled for a little garlic powder, and scooped on the tomato topping. I served it with some cottage cheese, and Bob loved it! We'll probably skip a day, and have the rest on Saturday. Grazie, my friends! I even looked it up so I know to say broosketta, not brushetta. Right? Did I do good?
