Default New Years Traditions

Do you have anything you traditionally do on New Years Eve or New Years Day?

I'm a homebody on New Years Eve. Have been for years. We never went out on New Years Eve....always stayed home with the family.

New Years Day was always a pork roast and black eyed peas. My Mom used to make this every year when I was growing up. Pork roast, greens, black eyed peas, new potatoes and cornbread. My MIL used to always fix a big New Years Day dinner (never as good as my Mom's though ) and everybody went to her house. Well, things have changed drastically but I still do the black eyed peas thing.

My Mom would never do laundry on New Years Day....said it was bad luck!

Anyone else have any New Years Day traditions?

In my much younger days I used to go to Cadillac Mountain most New Year's Day mornings, after camping out all night, greet the first sunrise in the USA and then sleep again until the football game started or whatever was going on.!

Now I either work, or stay home to avoid the people who just do NOT understand NO drinking and driving!

If I was lucky enough and was off---I would be out and having a time-----If I was on Duty I would be putting many folks behind bars-----Not the good Bar where you can purchase a Martini----The one where you get 1 phone call if your lucky..

I was EZ going so If you were lucky enough to run into me and could make it home--You would----The last 2 years? Hmm--I have not made it to midnight----But I do watch some of the 3 Stooges....... That is always good for a laugh----And a nice New Years Kiss in the morning is good for the soul I find

Take down the tree! Watch football!

This year, however, I will be making wedding bouquets and centerpieces for a wedding on Jan 2nd!

Pete, my sister used to be a county Sheriff...she always worked the holidays! Now she is a dispatcher for 9-1-1 and part time EMT. She still works the holidays.

Our family tradition is my husband works each and every New Year's Eve. It was never a big night for us, we never go out, so he volunteers to take the evening. My sister has New Year's Eve parties a lot of the years so me and my daughter go hang out there. It's so close to my daughter's birthday I don't want to have a party or anything so New Year's Day is very low key as well. Sometimes we go hang out and my mom's house.

We build a huge bonfire from trees that have been cut down and sit around with friends and family.

We haven't gone anywhere public or had a party for a few years.

No traditions! When I was working as an RN, new years eve was a shift I would frequently take so others could go out, or New Years day was also a shift I would take cause coworkers would be to spent to work it. Plus you get time and a half. And if you work New Years day you would get Christmas off!

This New years day all my family will start arriving for our family Christmas! Some come in Thursday, others Friday and a few scragglers on Saturday! Christmas will be on Saturday!!!!!

No big plans for New Years Eve. My neighbors shoot fireworks and one rings his ship bell from his Navy days. DH is usually in bed early and I watch TV.

We usually have ham and black eyed peas for lunch. DH couldn't stand the peas, but now he loves them...swimming in mayonnaise .
