Nobody bothers to ask anymore. They only think that I don't want to go....."What's the big deal, just sitting in a car or restaurant or movie theater?" They don't understand..

Guess what?? People here DO understand!

I just tell friends I would love to go but this shell of a body does not so how about coming over here to watch a movie?

I'll make popcorn and we have lots of snacks and a CLEAN bathroom!!

We have to accept the fact that our social life has changed so we just need to make the best of it!!

REAL friends will understand and be there!!

Then again, there are the maniacs who hook you up to a block & tackle, or pick you up right in your wheel chair, or tow you behind a rowboat...

They rock!

I have a few friends who would have done that, in the old days, but, their days are way to old now..

Nope, moved, by now old friends not friends anymore. Moved, got MS before I made real friends. In a chair, need some toileting help to get to bathroom. Went to neighbors. Their 1st floor half bath, door way too small to get me and chair in. Family room off kitchen a step down!!! We don't go there anymore. My bathroom big, toilet has pull-up bar, so I can be independent. My sister used to invite me to her 3rd floor, no elevator condo at shore (when I could kinda walk, but 3 flights of stairs!!??? Guess I looked good)

I bet there are people around you who would love to have a friend like you!

We always had to transfer with DH job which meant leaving friends and family. Until I get to know someone I am kind of shy so it was always hard for me to make new friends.

Most every town (even our little town) has support groups and social happenings. Public buildings have been re-done so people with disabilities can use the facilities.

If you have a chamber of commerce contact them and tell them you are new in town. Most towns will send a rep over with coupons, little trinkets and lists of activities etc. I have always been surprised at all the neat stuff they have!

We once moved to a town of only 900 people so I called the city offices and asked for information on things to do and that ended up being the best town and I made lots of friends and whoodah thunkit?

Let me know how it works out for you.

I used to drive an 18 wheeler for a living, usually 150-250 miles a day, don`t do that in a good month now. Might be something to do with the attention level needed to drive but it wears me out, even being a passenger.

I don`t travel well so I stay home and find things to do.

I love to play tourist, and will occasionally take short trips, but my ability to drive very far is going the same way as my ability to walk very far...and I don't fly (on airplanes, I mean )..I will always try if I have someone with me who can share the driving duties, but I pay for it later..Oh well. No guts, no glory.

i don't travel well at all.
and i'd never go by car.
i have to plan for wks as to what to pack and my meds etc.
then i have to sign up for a wheelchair at all legs thru the airport.

the trip is usually 5 hrs and it's very hard for me to sit that long.
plus i don't get my nap. it's just all very tiring.
i have to recover when i get where i'm going and be away from my home and routine.

then i have to do it all again when i come home.
traveling is not my fav thing to do.
